Hi, When I switched my pc on yesterday I had no Internet connection. WiFi is working fine but the connection between the router and pc isn't being recognised. I've tried plugging the cable into a different port on the router with no luck. I've tried a different ethernet cable - still no luck. In Device Manager, Network adapters, it says the device is working properly. Any suggestions as to what to do? We had a lot of thunderstorms could that have caused a power surge or something??? Also, whilst switching the pc off, unplugging andleaving it, the monitor has failed too, so now I can only get it on bt pressing F8 during the boot up. 🤔😬😭

Another day, another Linux community with malware woes. Last time it was Gentoo, a hard-core, source-based Linux distribution that is popular with techies who like to spend hours tweaking their entire operating system and rebuilding all their software from scratch to wring a few percentage points of performance out of it. That sort of thing isn’t for everyone, but it’s harmless fun and it does give you loads of insight into how everything fits together. That sets it apart from distros such as ElementaryOS and Mint, which rival and even exceed Windows and macOS for ease of installation and use, but don’t leave you with much of a sense of how it all actually wo…

W10 10 PC with an NVidia Geforce GTX 560 TI graphics card. Connected to a Samsung S23C650 monitor. (via a KVM) Usually used in a High res mode ... working fine earlier, shut down when I started up again ... it is in low res 1024 x 768 Under Settings >Display it does not list any higher res settings .... such as the normally used 2560 x 1600. Under device Manager it shows card without any error icon .. and it shows no driver updated since March. No error - just low resolution.

OSX.Dummy depends on substantial help from an unwary victim. A new strain of MacOS malware is targeting those who like to discuss their cryptocurrency investing in Slack or Discord groups. It depends on a certain level of naiveté on the part of the victim - a level that resulted in the strain being labeled OSX.Dummy. The social engineering attack presents a request from a user identifying themselves as an administrator of the group. They ask the victim to run a lengthy command in a terminal window, then ignore the 34 Mbyte file that is downloaded. The file is a large mach064 binary (34M), rating a perfect score of 0 / 60 on virustotal. If the victim d…

Hello all. I have posted a problem in the Windows 8 forum under the above title & have been advised to share it on this forum for more expert advice & to read the replies so far. I'd really appreciate it if you'd take a look. I tried to copy & paste my question, but couldn't copy the screen shot that explains the problem. Thanks in anticipation.

Rakhni Trojan has evolved to examine the infected PC to determine which form of malware will be best to install. An ever-evolving form of malware has added a new tactic which sees it choose to deliver ransomware or a cryptojacker depending on the circumstances of the infected victim. If an infected computer contains a bitcoin wallet, the malware will install file-encrypting ransomware -- if there's no pre-existing cryptocurrency folder and the computer is capable of mining cryptocurrency, a miner will be downloaded and installed for the purposes of exploiting the PC's power to generate cryptocurrency. The cryptocurrency miner is the latest addition to Rakhni …

Believe it or not, some hardy souls are still running Windows 7 on PCs equipped with turn-of-the-century Pentium III CPUs. But the latest round of Windows 7 security patches won't install on those devices. Here's the background. In August 2000, nearly 18 years ago, Intel proudly showed off its newest CPU family, the Pentium 4. ZDNet was there to cover the announcement and highlighted one of the signature features of the new chip: I'm old enough to remember that announcement, and yes, the addition of support for Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) was a big deal at the time. It was a high-end feature in 2000, but by 2004 or so every mainstream processor …
