Recently I used the command "CHKDSK /R" to help speed up opening & shutdown time on my Asus PC running windows 8.1 32 bit. Now I discover I cannot override this operation which is stuck in a loop, alternating between 3 messages over and over, continuously. "1) Preparing automatic repair 2) Diagnosing your PC 3) Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." Even after force closing, once on again, the operation resumes. I can't find a way to open Safe Mode in this version of windows & no DVD drive on my PC. Is there anything else I can do to end it ? Has been running for over 24 hours without completing. I have Microsoft Works installed which has Word included. I don't use if often but a few days ago I needed to use a Word template from the Works launcher. It gave me an error to say Word wasn't installed properly. I found the disc and reinstalled Word, everything worked perfectly until I rebooted after installing updates. Now when I use the template it says Winword.exe can't be found. I've reinstalled Word again and almost instantly got a notification that there are updates for Office, no mention of Word, just Office and other parts of Office that I don't have like Publisher. Why do the updates remove Word? It's a legal copy, I have the serial number on the back …

Researchers uncover a form of malware that's still in development - but it has the potential to become a nasty threat. An experimental form of Android malware delivers a banking trojan, a keylogger and ransomware to those unfortunate to fall victim to it. Over the weekend, Microsoft announced that starting on July 1st 2018 they are no longer offering support for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and a wide variety of older applications in the Microsoft Community forums. This does not mean that volunteers will not be able to answer questions, only that Microsoft staff themselves will no longer respond to them. The certificate used by the CDN to deliver the icons used for the site has expired. Until they can resolve the issue I have turned off th styles that rely on those icons. Once the issue is resolved I will turn the default style on again.

I hope everyone is well, An elderly friend asked me to look on the internet for a “Sound Finalizer” Using a stereo system he records individual songs from CD’s onto blank CD’s and was wanting something to equalise the volume on each track. Someone had suggested this is what he needed. I only found a TC Electronic Finalizer which seems to be an expensive, vintage, complex piece of studio equipment. Q. Presumably it can all be done on an inexpensive laptop? Q. Is the software readily available? Q. I have a new (well new to me) Laptop running the latest W10 and all seems fine apart from one thing. Although I can access all my other PCs on my home network I can't access the laptop from any of the other PCs all on W10. I have set up a shared folder on the laptop and given share permissions for myself and "everyone" which is what I have on all the other PCs. From time to time one or other of the PCs seems to not show up under the network but by simply running its name (\\pcname) I can always then see it from any other computer. However if I try this to access the laptop it says I don't have permission and consult the administrator - but I am the administrator!…

Hi, my screen display has suddenly shrunk and now does not fill the screen. I have obviously done something wrong inadvertently. I have looked at all the articles about resizing, ie "right clicking desktop and selecting different pixel displays" but that does not alter the size of the display. I am now stumped. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this is in the wrong place

I have tried to update my PC (Windows 10 Pro 64bit) with the latest may update kb4103721 but I'm getting Error code: (0x80073712) When I troubleshoot it says I have pending updates. How do I remove the corrupt files? I have tried the following:- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealthsfc /scannow Deleted content in Software Distribution Download file Still getting the Error code: (0x80073712) What are your suggestions?
