Hi guys, Using my Samsung 28" tv as the monitor with my new PC, but it tends to go off, and come back on every 10/15 mins or so. Using HDMI-to-HDMI cable. Was online with Samusng chat and it turns out the HDMI lead I was using initially was a 1.4. They suggested a 2.0 at least. Purchased a 'high speed' one from Tesco for about £12 which SAYS its 2.0.......i think...........but screen is still doing it on occassion. Am I better off getting the more pricey 2.0 HDMI cable? This is the 3rd cable I've tried, in the lower budget range but it seems the issue still not resolved. many thanks, in advance

iPhone users are still vulnerable to being tricked into handing over passwords. Apple knows it — but won't do anything about it. iPhone or iPad users, if you update to iOS 11.3 now, you'll have new features and a bunch of security updates. But you'll still be just as vulnerable to on-device phishing attacks as you ever were. A long-expected privacy icon debuts in the software update out Thursday which help users identify when Apple requests more of their personal information. The update doesn't change how much data Apple collects, but it helps show what data will be collected when Apple apps and features are used for the first time. "You won't see this …

Monero-mining Android malware will exhaust your phone in its quest for cash. A new strain of Android malware will continuously use an infected device's CPU to mine the Monero cryptocurrency until the device is exhausted or even breaks down. Security company Trend Micro has named the malware HiddenMiner because of the techniques it uses to protect itself from discovery and removal. Like most cryptocurrency-mining software, HiddenMiner uses the device's CPU power to mine Monero. But Trend Micro said that because there is no switch, controller, or optimizer in HiddenMiner's code it will continuously mine Monero until the device's resources are exhausted. "G…

I am using a Thomson TG585V7 router supplied by my ISP when i signed up several years ago.I also have a Sagecom 2704n router supplied by the ISP when i changed product.I use the Thomson as it is currently installed. I have a desktop connected and a laptop connecting via wireless. They are both working ok but I was wondering if changing the router would improve my internet download/upload speeds.I have looked at new routers but it is very confusing with the amount info that is used. I am not that computer savvy but get by! Could someone suggest a better router that might improve things and more importantly easy to instal.

The malware attempts to take your antivirus products out of the equation before locking systems. A new type of ransomware which tries to uninstall security software on victim PCs has been discovered in the wild. The ransomware, dubbed AVCrypt, was first discovered by MalwareHunterTeam and later analyzed by security professionals at Bleeping Computer. According to an analysis of the malware, AVCrypt will attempt to not only remove existing antivirus products before encrypting a compromised computer but will also delete a selection of Windows services. Researchers Lawrence Abrams and Michael Gillespie say that the ransomware "attempts to uninstall software i…

I built my pc about 7 months ago and it has been completely fine until a couple of days ago when I noticed that the audio coming from my pc's headphones was very muffled. If I listen to an instrumental song for example, it is mostly fine, however, lyrics or speaking in a video is non existant. I am pretty sure that the audio settings/enhancements are stuck on the karaoke mode but when I look at the settings, it says that all audio enhancements are disabled. I have tried updating the audio drivers countless times, however the problem still remains. I also just tried resetting the pc altogether and that didn't seem to do the trick either. If anyone has any idea what I ca…

Dang! Don’t you just hate it when you search for Amazon on Google, you click on the top link (which of course must be legit, right? – it’s from Google!) and then you somehow wind up infected with “Malicious Pornographic Spyware” with a dab of “riskware” on top? Yep, not for the first time, Google’s been snookered into serving a scam tech support ad posing as an Amazon ad. This is déjà vu. Thirteen unlucky months ago, scammers slipped a fake Amazon ad under Google’s nose. Anybody who clicked on it was whisked to a Windows support scam. ZDNet reported on that one in February 2017, and it brings us news of the bad ad rebirth once again. On Friday, ZDNet’s Zack Wh…

All links in the Windows 10 mail client will open in Edge Microsoft is about to make another highly-controversial change in Windows 10, and without a doubt, many users won’t be happy with it. The company is thinking of forcing users to open links in the Mail app in Microsoft Edge exclusively starting with the Redstone 5 update. A change included in the latest Windows 10 Redstone 5 preview build reveals that clicking links in the Mail app will launch Edge instead of whatever browser you are using as default. Even if Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is installed and used as your daily driver, this new behavior makes Windows 10 ignore your settings and use Edge e…

Ghost NIC might be created after installing the update This month’s Patch Tuesday rollout is slowly proving to be quite a fiasco, as more reports seem to be pointing to issues with the updates Microsoft published for Windows devices. After Windows 10 cumulative updates KB4088787 and KB4088776 showed signs of failed installs, it’s now the turn of the Windows 7 monthly rollup to cause problems, this time in a pretty different way. There are reports that installing KB4088875,and the security-only update KB4088878 remove or break down virtual Network Interface Cards (NICs), and in some cases, they delete the static IP address configuration. The update also crea…

Well - I haven't been here for ages but a dear friend whose method of operating is in terminal decline needs help so - - erstwhile pals can you help ? The aged friend I speak of (an Acer Aspire) has served me and latterly my wife for many moons (probably close to 15 years) it's been bashed, dropped, repaired yet still works well. The problem is those admirable chaps at Microsoft no longer support the Vista life blood of my aged friend I am reticent to chuck such a faithful pal in the bin so can anyone recommend an operating system that is available either free or for a few pounds (and how I get it) so I can resuscitate my old chum. My old friend will only be a ba…

Verizon, which now owns the web giant, sought to dismiss the case. Yahoo customers affected by three massive data breaches that resulted in the theft of more than three billion users' data are allowed to sue the company, a judge has ruled. California judge Lucy Koh rejected a bid by Verizon, which bought the internet giant last year, to dismiss a large portion of the claims, including breach of contract, deceit and concealment, and negligence. At the heart of the case, Yahoo was accused of taking too long to notify users of the breaches, which put customers at risk of identity theft and fraud. The filing, dated Friday, cited several customers whose data was…

Build 17115 is now available for the Slow ring Microsoft has just released Windows 10 Redstone 4 build 17115 to users enrolled in the Slow ring of the Windows Insider program, making another substantial step towards the eagerly-awaited RTM expected sometime this time. Rolled out earlier this week for the Fast ring, Windows 10 build 17115 is entirely focused on polishing the experience in Redstone 4, and this makes perfect sense since we’re so close to RTM. And releasing it to the Slow ring is living proof that Microsoft is pleased with how this particular build is performing, and there’s a chance this could actually be the RTM build that ships to everyone next…
