In Win7, I could select the area to be snipped as soon as I had launched Snipping-tool; but in Win10, I have to first click on 'NEW' - which I find an inconvenience and would like to avoid. I have tried to run the snippingtool.exe from Win7 in Win10 without success; even when used in COMPATIBILITY mode. Is there a way to avoid the 'unnecessary' extra step ?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/darktheme-100675138-large_zpsbbfiekdc.png Believe it or not, Windows 10’s dark theme was one of the most anticipated features for the Anniversary Update roll out. Forget about Cortana's beefed-up capabilities, Windows Ink, or phone-PC notification integration—for many users, it’s all about getting that sleek, sleek theme. Now that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is available you can upgrade your visual life with the new theme. But how do you enable it and how extensive are its effects? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/darktheme2-100675147-large_zpsonb855cn.png It all starts with the Setti…

The flaw, which allows a malicious website to extract user passwords, is made worse if a user is logged in with a Microsoft account. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/windows-jpeg_zps4cxkeedy.jpg A previously-disclosed flaw in Windows can allow an attacker to steal usernames and passwords of any signed-in user -- simply by tricking a user into visiting a malicious website. But now a new proof-of-exploit shows just how easy it is to steal someone's credentials. The flaw is widely-known, and it's said to be almost 20 years old. It was allegedly found in 1997 by Aaron Spangler and was most recently resurfaced by researchers in 2015 at Black Hat,…

Hi This is going to be slow and painful. I have used computers for years but only really word, excel and database, never had the interest to delve much further. Apart from this one (an impulse buy) an ebook or netbook Asus sonic master thing; which isn't capable of doing much but is the first one i've had since my Acer laptop's ac/dc plug stopped taking a charge three or four years ago and is now stored in the attic. I've now retired and am using this machine to catch up with online buying, banking etc. whilst waiting for my Acer to self heal. I have at least a couple of questions which will determine my next step. Please bear in mind that I'm old, live in the past, …

I am thinking of building a gaming/video editing system as my first build. I am going uni this September, studying computer science and i have decided to build a pc system for myself to help me complete different projects at uni. Along with uni, i will also be editing youtube videos at 1080p, with a max resolution of 4k. My budget of building a system is £1500. Within this budget i will be needing ALL COMPONENTS including MONITOR AND PERIPHERALS. However, the one thing that i will not be needing is an OS. I already have an OS on a USB which i will be using. Seeing as i will be editing in 4k, i would prefer a 4k monitor within the budget if possible. . The monitor does …

Like many others I suspect, we have stacks of videos of the grandchildren when they were young that we now need to convert to a different format to preserve our treasured memories. These videos were taken when we lived in the USA and we now live in England. We brought a NTSC video player with us and we want to play them back on the computer. We are not computer savvy and we don't know where to start! We have windows 10. Questions: 1) How do we go about playing NTSC videos on our desk top computer with a Windows 10 OS? 2) How can we convert them to PAL DVDs? 3) How can we make this conversion while still retaining as much picture integrity as possible…

my sons PC has been getting very slow .... Dell E521 but no errors and no network issues. Decided to do a clean install of all. So used the Dell OS re-install to put in a clean install of XP-Professional Obviously first thing to do is to get network connectivity all OK ... then I can look at newer OS All OK ... other than it is prompting for network validation. Also ran the Dell drivers resource cd to install all the drivers. At this point Ethernet works - to a fashion - but not correctly. By default it has IE6 ... when I for example type in bbc.co.uk it will go to that site OK (site complains browser is too old) If I try Amazon.co.uk - fails Goo…

So I've just built a custom PC, not my first, but I've been having this problem with it that is driving me nuts. When I turn on the computer and monitor, the computer is working, but the monitor doesn't pick up any signal. If I then turn off both the monitor and PC, and retry, it works. Sometimes it takes one reboot, sometimes three or four. This always occurs after the computer being off overnight. In the morning this occurs every time, however, if I turn the computer on, reboot and use for about an hour, then turn off for say, 30mins, it will turn back on fine, no problems. This only occurs when it's been off for more than a few hours. I've tried swapping cables…

Victims can now recover their files for free http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/free-decrypter-available-for-bart-ransomware-506469-4_zpsjmmexg1o.png Almost a month after security researchers first spotted the Bart ransomware, Jakub Kroustek, a security researcher for AVG, has created a free decrypter for recovering files locked by the Bart ransomware. In the crowded space of today's ransomware landscape, Bart stands apart from the competition for two reasons. First, the ransomware is distributed via one of the largest malware-spreading botnets in the world, the same network that spreads the Dridex banking trojan and the Locky ransomware. Sec…
