Well, I'm close to buying a new PC (upgrading from a laptop with Windows 7) - taken me half a century to get here cos I know virtually nobody who understands much about computers! But I'm homing in on an Acer Aspire XC-710 desktop. The older guy in my local shop gave me a lot of technical info which was completely meaningless to me and then printed out a quote for a pc which, even to me, was obviously vastly more powerful and expensive than I would ever need. In contrast yesterday, a nice young guy down at Currys seemed to be completely on my wavelength, explained the essential technology that I needed and wasn't a bit fazed by my dumb questions! The Acer I'm loo…

I tried to download recent important security updates, but all it does is stay at 0%, even after an hour!. I am still using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Chrome browser and Kaspersky Internet Security. I have my update setting on 'check with me before downloading' as I don't want Windows 10 and always make sure I remove the tick in that box before downloading updates. Has anyone got any suggestions please. Thank you.

Hi Guys These are probably very basic questions to some of you, first let me put you right in the picture, I’m a silver surfer and all I’ve done with a computer is use it, certainly not uninstall Windows or Office, in fact when I tried downloading a program off the internet I promptly got conduit along with it and had to take my computer somewhere to get it cleaned up. Right the master plan is to uninstall Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate and uninstall Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, in other words format the hard drive so I can do a clean install because I’ve been told they are not legit. I’m getting someone to download and burn to disc for me a legit copy …

Hi all, my Logitech cordless mouse seems to have a mind of its own. I can use it as per normal, then it wont respond to my er! commands. The cursor doesn't always respond but wanders everywhere bar where I want it to go, if I hover over an icon on the bottom browser to bring it up, instead, it starts to drag the icon & is a pain to release it. Other times it respond fine. Batteries are fully charged, so is the mouse kaput or is, for some reason, the signal not getting to the mouse? Comments very welcome. Cheers

Hi. My dad has a new laptop which is running Windows 10. Since I have read him the riot act about randomly on Pop Ups, he now tells me when anything appears on his screen. He rang me tonight to tell me he occasionally gets a Pop Up when he is on his e mails which say " System registry error. System uses WPS Office as default for doc.xls.ppt files. Would you like to repair?" Or something like that. He says he can still print the emails , which are normally invoices. Any advice on what this is and what to do? He doesn't have Microsoft office installed, he uses Libre Office for work documents

OK Guys or Gals I’m in the need of some help, in fact a lot of it so let me put you in the picture. First off what I know about computers you could write on the back of a postage stamp. I’m a silver surfer so come from the age of when a calculator was at best a slide rule. OK what I’m trying to do, I want to format a computer hard drive and install Microsoft Windows 10 Professional and then install Microsoft Office 2010 Professional. There’s just no way I can afford the 2016 version. In my search for a copy (DVD), I came across someone selling Microsoft Office on e-bay, the advert read as follows: This is a genuine item displaying the words ORIGIN:IRELAND on t…

My wife runs a small language school and we have 6 networked PCs for the students Each day I run a series of batch files to create backups of files etc - and for the most part they all work fine. However, one of the backup areas is on a USB flash drive connected to my router and this makes available a few things on the network for anyone no matter which computer is switched on or being used at the time. It also saves my hard disks from having to run all the time just to make these files available. The batch file code to do this part of the backup is very simple and designed to only copy new or any updated files - nothing else should be copied xcopy "C:\backup…

RansomNoteCleaner Windows app cleans up the ransom note spam left behind after removing a ransomware infection http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/ransomnotecleaner-removes-ransomware-junk-from-your-pc-505978-6_zpscbilpqyd.png Security researcher Michael Gillespie, one of the people responsible for creating several free ransomware decrypters, along with the awesome ID Ransomware service, has put together a new tool that automatically scans and deletes ransom notes from your PC. When any type of ransomware malware infects your computer, it usually leaves ransom notes in the forms of text, HTML, or image files behind. A tool to automate the ransomw…

Ransomware shuts users out of their phones by changing the lock-screen password. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/motorola-moto-x-pure-edition-0003-006_zps7bctcrnt.jpg Android Nougat will come with a new security feature that prevents ransomware from locking users out of their own devices. The new operating system, slated for public release later this year, will no longer allow users or software to invoke a command that clears already-set passwords. Instead of encrypting files like traditional ransomware, Android ransomware typically resets a user's lock-screen password, preventing the user from getting access to their own phone or tablet until…

Hello, for some reason my PC keeps turning off. It does it at very random times and I don't know why. I'm running Windows 7 and I have done a Virus scan which I sorted through and my computer is Virus clean. I checked my powercord by wiggling it a bit too see if my PC turned off then but it did nothing. I'm so clueless. It's really starting to annoy me because i'd be playing a game on League of Legends and it'd just turn off, or i'd be watching a video n it turns off. UGH. Help please!!
