Hi, Ive just recovered from a major outbreak of viruses/ adware and since then ive got no sound from my pc, when I go into sounds and audio devices it shows "no audio device" . when I go into installed hardware it says under audio playback -modem#0 line playback.Ive reached the limit of my capabilities, and getting frustrated. Hi, I have a bit of an issue with my pc, and am struggling to resolve it.... Everytime I switch on the pc, windows fails to load - instead I am presented with a black screen displaying the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows setup using the original setup cd-rom. hi, every time i open windows explorer i get a pop up of some sort (casino or dating) i am running window xp sp2, i have run windows defender and spybot and have deleted all progs on my list that i dont recognize, but still i get probs, also so i have enabled pop up blocker to high on Internet options, how do i stop this ? any ideas guys many thanks...

I seem to have an enormous amount of processes in the Task Manager. Some even seem to be the same thing repeated. I know that some of the processes are paramount and need to be working but how do i go about isolating the ones i dont need and deleting them without destroying my PC?

hi, my PC will not boot up, it is running Windows XP home edition. when i switch it on it says there is a problem with windows32/config and that i should re install windows using a recovery disk, however the computer didn't come with a recovery disk. can anyone help?

Here's a fun one: I'm running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, and it only lasts 30 seconds, before tuning off. Basically, I can get the computer to where I can run programs...but after that, I've got a couple seconds, before the thing dies (without any lovely warning boxes, I might add). I'm not sure if it's an overheating issue, or a lack-of-power thing...but I'm fairly certain it's a hardware problem. I'm kind of new at computer repair, so I'm not sure exactly what info you guys need...best I can give you, right now, is my DxDiag stuff. trying to help user get on an app via IE, using IE 6.0.2900.2180....; MS XP w/sp2; when user tries to log onto app via IE, gets message on toolbar, far lower left next to IE ico, that says "error on page"; user can go to machine just next to heer PC and log on with no problem...have checked URL on user PC, have set options on PC, cleard temp files, history, all is same as on my Pc and I can get to app no prob (not a password issue).. any thoughts?

I should post this in here aswell Well basicly I want to put my PC on standby and still be connected to the net via my USB modem (it turns off and closes my connection) if I am able to do this it means I can use my Nintendo DS to brose the web from another room with the wireless dongle (as I dont haeva router or wireless) Please help I hope its possible as im feed up of being at my PC to browse!

I recently had to format my lappy, and re-install my xp pro, when installing as many of us do i just worked thru everything but i seem to now keep getting a mess from windows saying i need to free up space on drive E, for windows to run smoothly. I have a drive c, 32gb, nothing on it. A drive E, 4gb, with all windows files, etc. Is it possible to move the partition or to move some space from C to E, or can I do something else?? Please help? Its probably something very simple and you will all laugh your socks off at me, but I would really appreciate some help, I dont want to have to format my lappy again if I don't have to?

Hi, please be patient with me, this is my first post! I use Windows Xp and have a problem with MS Outlook. NTL are my Broadband provider and for the last 18 months I have been using 3 mailboxes set up on Outlook. I went to check one mailbox last night and everything has disappeared from it, all of the Inbox, Deleted and sent items. The other two are fine. I can still send and receive new ones to this mailbox. I am no expert, I can see that the .pst file is still present in My Documents, but the properties say there is only about 64KB in it. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to retrieve the lost items. i just bought a compaq presario pc with 512 mb of ram, i ran a diagnostic check on my hardware specs and it says that i only have 447.5 mbs of system memory, is there anyway to retrieve or increase my lost mbs ram from my pc, or return it to out of the box specs

Hi my pc has only got 64mb of ram, so i'm looking to upgrade. I've scanned my PC and it can only take 512mb of ram. I've read how to add extra ram, but could i just pull out my 64mb and put in 512mb? Also if i do this does it make any difference if I put in one 512mb ram card or two 256mb ram cards as I know I've got three slots?

My PC keeps shuting down during boot up. It stops for a while then attemps to reboot if it does manage to boot up completely it only goes for a while then shuts down again.Tried a different hard drive and it does the same so dont think its a virus. Fans working ok its not overheating. Anyone got any ideas

Hi I've just put a new CD-R into my P.C. I know for a fact the CD-R is good cos it works on my other P.C. I'm getting power to it cos the drawer opens and shuts but the P.C. says it aint there, I"ve tried two different wires from the motherboard to the CD-R but I'm getting nothing. Please help as I'm getting ready to take my lump hammer to it and the missus is gonna divorce me for turning the sitting room into a P.C. workshop. The operating system is Windows ME and I want to upgrade tp XP but without a CD it aint possible.

Okay, this is gonna be a very long post, so bare with me.... This is my setup: 2 PC's, side by side both using Win XP operating systems. Both pc's use a cordless mouse. The problem is that one mouse becomes lazy and hard to manuever when the other mouse is being used. Basically saying that I cannot use my mouse when my wife is using hers. Has anyone have an remedy for this problem?

I recently bought a usb pci card for my mp3 player, because my computer didn’t have one. I installed the hardware and the computer asked me for my system to upgrade to service pack 1 (really need service pack 2). I tried to install that but the computer said the product key used to install windows may not be valid. so do i need a genuine windows xp o/s disc to sort this conflict out?

I have just downloaded a load of music files which have the file extension .wv I thought this would be just a simple .wav type file but its not. It doesnt agree with any of my basic music play back programs or my mp3 conversion program. Does anyone know what extension this is and how can i convert the files to normal mp3 format for playback? Many thanks
