problem is user switching. Unable to switch users as it will not accept passwords. First user can log on using a password but when switching to other user, it will not accept current password. If the origional person to log on trys to log back, on the computer will not accept the password which was just successfully used. If I see the "have you forgot you password" sign once more I will scream. I have tried eliminating passwords but that does not work either. After the first successful logon using no password, the computer will start asking for one when you try to switch users. Can anyone help me

Whenever I am in Internet Explorer new explore windows are launching automatically. I have run virus scan and spyware removal programs and a registry cleaner but cannot solve the problem. Sometimes it does it when just scrolling through a screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I lose my connection after 30 mins or so. Pull my modem cable out from the back of the laptop...re connect the cable and to the net....and again it lasts so long. Maybe dodgy usb ports? Very frustrating!

Hey folks! I'd be really greatful if someone could give me some advice... I have a Toshiba M40x-230 laptop running windows xp. Yesterday my computer froze while i was online so i restarted it. Upon restarting it came up asking me to install the drivers for the wireless network controller. So I've been sat since then trying to install/update the system with just about every driver i can find from the pre-installed ones, ones from atheros and intel. On the device management it just shows a big yellow question mark where my wireless used to be. Ive got a 2.2ghz athlon with 1gb of ram, 80 gb hard drive and an Ati 9800All in Wonder grafics card. I have also just baught the new flight simulator and my computer will not run it very well even with the newest drivers, just wondered if buying a new graphics card would help (preferably under £100) or if i would have to upgrade the cpu aswell to get any significant difference. Any help would be appreciated!!

I'm running Win ME on my PC and for some reason whenever I load up a web page IE set's the encoding to Western European (ISO). This turns all web pages to text format only and so I need to manually change each page to Western European (Windows). Does anyone know how to set IE to always load up pages with the encoding set at Western European (windows)? Thanks

My PC (running XP Home) suddenly won't allow me to upload pics/files to websites via a web browser (eg, photos to Photobucket or Imageshack) using forms. I've tried various types of file and none of them work, regardless of format or the site I'm trying to upload them to. Strange thing is it worked fine until this morning and I haven't added any new software. I've checked another PC on my home network and the same problem isn't occurring, so it's an issue with this specific PC rather than my net connection. I've tried both IE and Firefox - the same problem with both browsers. I've also tried uploading to a site with my firewall switched off - same problem …

Not sure if this is in the right thread but here goes, I know a little about pc's but this problem has stumped me. On initial start up the computer can do either of the following: 1) Get to the start up screen (press del to enter set up) and it just reboots. 2) Get to the log into windows screen then reboots. 3) Get to the log into windows screen then just freezes. 4) Starts up no problem gets to the desk top, open programs then just freezes or reboots. This happens every time i switch the pc on, after about 5 attempts it suddenly works perfectly and it can be switched on and off all day without a problem, if its left for say 5 hours the problems start again.…

i was just wondering if anybody knows of a good joystick that i can buy, i currently have a trust predator QZ 501 but when i try and use it in a flight sim it makes the plane spin round in circles an is starting to pee me off lol

Somehow I picked up a sex file C:\WINDOWS\internt.exe -go -c231 -w69 that keeps knocking out my internet connection and dials something else. I copied the file name from a shortcut it throws on my desktop but try as I might I cannot find the file to delete it. Can anyone help to delete this kind of crap. T.I.A.

Really need help folks!!! Recently bought new Dell desktop for in-laws. They were having problems with TalkTalk and wanted me to install BT dial-up software. I did this however, after the installation ran the desktop went balnk except for the Dell wallpaper, ie all icons/shortcuts disappeared as did the Start/Taskbar at the bottom! I have tried re-booting but still nothing. However, shortcuts, etc., present in Safe Mode. Can I do a System Restore from Safe Mode or does anyone have any other suggestions. Also, BT dial-up software not present. Hope you can help. Many thanks in advance

When I turn on my speakers the green light comes on showing that it is connected ok, but I get no sound. I have checked the properties on the decvices and it tells me that there is now device. It also shows windows 95 and says that it cannot show compatability. I have updated my windows to windows xp home from windows 98 second edition. This problem has occured only since the update. Please, Please can someone help me and give me advice.

I rebuilt my computer about 6 weeks ago A new ASUS motherboard (P5V-VM DH ) Intel Celeron D processor , DDR2 RAM and new hard drive, everything worked great until a few days ago when it went into stand by. guys I need help please. Recently I bought a new hard drive. So before swithiching I used my previous version of windows in old hard drive to move my files to the new drive. now then i installed windows in the new drive and then only I can see the files but can't access them. As my old hard disk is gone, so does my key or certificate or anything else. What should I do. Will using linux help?. I have Ubuntu Live CD, ..will that do?

When I bought a second hand pc (from work) I wanted to update it from windows 2000 professional to windows xp home... long story short, I ended up loading the xp onto a separate 'partician'. So when I boot up, I get the choice of both. However, the pc I bought, in fact, isn't really good enough to run xp (fair enough), so this affects the performance. So I want to remove xp and leave windows 2000. I don't know how to do this, I can't seem to access a 'partician'??? Thanks for any advice! I'm a novice, I'm sure you'll have guessed!

Hi, don't know whether anyone can help with this, I have tried everything! Basically, I cannot get onto any https (secure) sites outside my university network, so I can't internet bank, get on msn or generally use anything that has a password, which is such a pain. I have tried everything, followed those instructions you get when the page says 'this page cannot be displayed', I have tried to change my security settings. It just will not work! My cousin used my computer one day, and shut it down normally, but ever since then my computer just keeps restarting everytime it gets to the windows loading screen...i tried putting the hard drive into another working computer, and it causes that computer to do the same thing...so i figure it must be something wrong with the hard drive....i have some valuable information on it that i would like to retrieve if at al possible, but at the very least i would like to reformat the whole hard drive so i can at least reinstall the os and use the hard drive again....any help would be highly appreciated...Thanx!

I have recently subscibed to telewest 4meg broadband and bought a belkin G+ 802.11g wireless router in order for me an my flatmates to have wireless internet. I was thinking that this router was fast enough for us to recieve a pretty fast internet connection. I have setup the router on my flatmates PC and am reciveing the network on my laptop. However the connection is extremely slow, no where near as fast as i thought 4meg broadband was. It seems slower than the 512k broadband i was using before. I have also installed blueyonder internet that was provided by telewest thinking that was why i wasnt recieving the full 4meg broadband. Im not sure why this is so slow. Could a…

Hi there When i play music on my PC direct from the CD the sound is of very poor quality. It judders and plays slower that what it should. When i eject the CD for a few seconds whilst it ejects the disc, the sound becomes clearer and how it should be! I have tried everything, installed new drivers and messed about with as much as i can. I have been Riping Music from CD's using ITunes and that was working really fast. But now it seems to take an eternity to do an entire music CD. Not sure if this is related. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Stu
