My laptop has one hardrive called C:\ with a total capacity of 71.2GB. I went into the properties of the drive and most of the pie chart is blue, saying 56.3GB used, and 14.8GB free. I don't understand what is taking up that 56.3GB? I have 19GB of music, and some programs, but I can't think of how I could have that much on my computer. I had 30GB free not long ago and I haven't made any drastic changes since or downloaded any big programs. Thank you for your help.

Using XP Pro, yesterday windows could not see my cd rom and dvd burner. In device manager it stated they were working, but the system could not find the hardware (with the yellow exclamation point.) I deleted and let XP find the hardware again which usually solves these problems. Anyway, no luck. Found new hardware, but the same result. I found it strange that both devices went bad at the same time. Thought maybe the SATA or IDE Bus went bad. Today, windows starts to boot but before the blue welcome screen it reboots. Same thing every time. Tried safe boot, last good...same problem. I suspect it is a hardware problem, but don;t know where to begin or how to troubl…

I Purchased a D-Link DPR -1260 USB Print Server for my Dell Laptop and Desktop. My operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (On both). I was told I could have my laptop wireless and my desk top hard wired to my printer by using this USB Print Server. I had problems installing the print server so I called the Tech Service for help. The Tech then informed me that I also had to have a Wireless Rounter in order to install and use the device? Other people had told me the Print Server was all I needed. Can any body tell me which it is? Do I have to have a Wireless Router? Thank You, Cheri

Ok here is the scoop I get NTLDR is missing when windows starts up then it says to press ctrl+alt+del to restart so I do and I get the same thing now I know the cable is not off the harddrive been there and I changed my bios so I know that is in the clear too now I still get it. My friend gave me as she calls it an "oh shit" floppy to do a system restore on and my computer will read that but it asks for a prompt (A:\) and I have no clue what to put in there I have looked just about everwhere on the web and you are my last hope oh please someone help me I really do not want to over-haul this computer.....thanks for any help you can give and I am more then willing to drop …

I can't seem to install software on my computer *even if it's from windows update*, I already have my administrative login name set up. I keep getting this stupid message, " "Error creation process C:\TEMP....................... /S:"C:\Documents and Settings........." > Reason: The system cannot find the file specified" So I can't even upgrade my Internet Browser. I really can't install to much of nothing. Please can someone help me get past this frustrating Reason.

There is no indication in the instructions for my PC (WinXP Home) on burning DVDs even though Nero software is pre installed. I don't know whether I should purchase blank DVD - R or DVD + R in order to burn a movie which could be played on a dvd player & TV set. My son tells me that his player will play DVD - R but will my computer burn DVD - R? I have the movie on the PC hard drive so no ripping issues. Thanks eniacap

Hi, I just bought a laptop from a boot sale, Dell Latitude C400 runnin WinXP Pro, it has no CD drive, no floppy drive, it asks me for a username & password which I dont know & I can't get in touch with the guy I bought it from. Now I either need to, somehow, get past the password request, or, re-install windows... And without a CD / Floppy drive I don't know how to do the latter, nor do I know if it's possible to get past the password request. ANY help would be very much apreciated. When I turn my PC on it gets to the first screen where it has the text at the top and you can press F8 or is it delete for the menu? to run it in safe mode. You can select any of the modes e.g safe mode, safe mode with networking. but when you do it displays the line of blocks at the botton of the screen and i think it says windows but then thats it, nothing, it freezes. You can access the menu where you can change the fan speed and stuff like that but I haven't done anything with it because I haven't got a clue. Hello, I am running a 56k modem on a windows xp home edition. when i log on to my isp, the small window says my speed is only 24kbps, other times it's 19.4kbps and so on. shouldn't it say 56kbps, is there a setting or something that I could change.

I have been having problems updating 'Office 2003 and Word Viewer 2003'. I am being prompted to install them by installation shield in my system tray. When I try to install them I get this message 'The following updates were not installed....Security Update for Word Viewer 2003 (KB917346) Security Update for Office 2003 (KB921566)'. I have also downloaded these updates seperately and tried to install them manually, but I get this message 'The updates cannot be applied'. Hi, can anyone help.am not very good with computers.i keep losing my internet connection. I'm having some problems with permissions in apache's document root. I set up all the folders to 777 and files to 644, but when I checked them recently I seem to have some files with 777 and that can't be good. I'm not too good with terminal commands, is there a nice easy way I can use chmod to sort it all out for me without having to go through and change them all separately? Is there an easy way to make sure new files I create end up with the right permissions, or do I have to check them as I go?

Hey there, Ubuntu "Edgy Eft" Knot 2 (beta release of 6.10) has been released for a while now, and i was wondering how many of you are running it. Thanks again Jamey for introducing me to it :) I've currently got Edgy on one part, Drake on another (with FULL lovely compizy goodness) and a gaming drive. I'm loving all the fixes, my wireless is constantly topping out at max speed downloading goodness off the net. hi all, hopefully somebody can help me with this, i had this problem months ago but have since changed isp and reinstalled windows due to hdd dying on me which is why im posting here, the fix was on the hdd (i know stupid not to make a backup, never make that mistake again!!!) anyways i have adsl with ace-internet and trying to connect to xbox live, when i connect the ethernet to my nic i get limited or no connectivity, NONE of the winsock fixes work, the only thing that worked last time was a static ip address, only problem is i dont remember what it was, ive tried my isp's ip range, ive tried 192.168.0.1 (im 70-80% sure that it begins with 192) can anybody help?? …

I have a new PC running Windows XP and am trying to access my previous emails from external hard drive backup. I have loaded a file INBOX.dbx (11Mb) but can't open it. When Windows asks which program to open with I choose Outlook Express but it won't open. I have tried Import but that only searches for individual messages on a different email program. Any ideas please?
