Today Emsisoft has released two new ransomware decryptors for the Xorist family and the 777 Ransomware infections. The Xorist ransomware has been around for a while, but Fabian Wosar was manually helping victims on a case-by-case basis. The ransomware family behind the 777 ransomware has also been around for a while, but a sample was discovered recently and thus a decryptor could be made. More details on the two decryptors can be found below. Decryptor for the Xorist Ransomware Family The Xorist ransomware encrypts your files appends various extensions such as *.EnCiPhErEd, *.0JELvV, *.p5tkjw, *.6FKR8d, *.UslJ6m, *.n1wLp0, *.5vypSa and *.YNhlv1 to the encr…

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/error-819x395_zpshufbhncx.png Tech support scammers are well aware of what is going on in the malware scene and often rip off ideas and concepts from other criminals. We see this today with for example bogus browser locks and fake AV alerts which are mostly an annoyance and can somewhat easily be disabled. But things have been changing with more serious malware-like techniques to force people into calling rogue tech support call centres. We previously saw a case of fake Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) actually locking up people’s desktops and now there is a growing demand for such ‘products’. Below is a Facebook po…

In order to get better wi fi in my rambling house I bought anew router an Asus DS N55u which is dual band and offers other things over myaged (over 10 years old) Linksys. At first everything seemed fine - the network range is aboutthe same but in our house the advantage of wireless N was obvious with muchhigher speeds than we have ever had before. A few of our devices are also ableto take advantage of the dual band so that is a plus too. However, due to the layout of our house there are some darkspots where the wi-fi does not reach and so we have always had an extender topush the signal into those areas. The extender is a Netgear WNR200orptv2 . Inthe past we have al…

My mum has a Canon MG6150 which she uses occasionally for printing b/w documents. She seems to be forever replacing the colour cartridges even though she never prints out in colour. I gather this is a known issue caused by the cleaning cycle purging ink and the printer not letting you print in black and white if one of the colour cartridges is out of ink. Could anyone suggest a reliable and simple to set up replacement?

The notorious Jigsaw Ransomware has rebranded itself as CryptoHitman and now uses the character from the popular Hitman video games and movies. In addition to adding the Hitman character to its locker screen, CryptoHitman also covers the lock screen with ****ographic images that are definitely not safe for work. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/hitman-ransomware-locker-blurred.png_zpsvou9dbfo.jpg Blurred out Hitman Ransomware Locker Screen Like the previous Jigsaw ransomware infections, CryptoHitman will encrypt your data with AES encryption and demand a ransom payment before it will decrypt your files. In order to pay this ransom you will be r…

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/windows-10-100660156-primary.idge_zpsqupeqoap.jpg Microsoft said the free Windows 10 upgrade deadline does not apply to people 'who use assistive technologies' After announcing that 300 million devices are running Windows 10, Microsoft said its free upgrade offer ends on July 29. If you want Windows 10 after that date, then you can purchase the $119 Windows 10 Home version or buy a new device running Windows 10. The free upgrade offer will not end, however, for Windows customers who have accessibility issues. The Microsoft Accessibility Blog wrote: If you don’t have and don’t want Windows 10, those annoyin…

I have recently bought a new pc with Windows 7 pro to replace my aged (like me) desktop pc. I do not profess to be a computer expert so could someone kindly advise me what to do with the 68 optional updates that are waiting. I installed all the important ones but do I need to install all these also? The explanations for them leave me no wiser as to whether I need them or not. If you, with more knowledge than I, were in this situation what would you do?

If you're running Windows 10 Preview build 14332, you can use these two popular ad-blocking extensions for Microsoft Edge. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/microsoft-edge-100582336-large_zpsszun2z11.png AdBlock for Microsoft Edge is still officially “coming soon.” But if you’re running the current Windows Insider build of Windows 10, you can try AdBlock and AdBlock Plus before everyone else. According to WinBeta, users of Windows 10 Insider build 14332 can now install the popular ad-blockers for Windows Edge. Both AdBlock and AdBlock Plus are available as free downloads from the WIndows Store, as @h0x0d on Twitter notes. So far, the two s…

I have been looking to upgrade one of my older PCs running 64bit W10 (Dell 755) and add memory. Currently it has 4MB of DDR2 PC2-5300 but can take 8gb of PC2 6400 so I was hoping to buy 4 sticks of 2gb ram then use the old ram to populate some other Dell 755s which I also have and which have less than 4gb each and are running 32 bit W10.. When looking on Ebay and other such sites I see that there are loads of adds for PC2 ram but some state "for AMD processors only" - but the numbers of the memory seem to be the same as those being advertised for Dell Intel based Pcs the same as mine! ie DDR2 PC2-6400 (and sometimes with DDR2 PC2-6400u) SO - my question is; how can yo…
