Hi Goku, Sorry for the delay in replying, I had to go away for work after posting. I tried the above with no luck. However something I have tried recently seems to have changed the situation slightly in that when I now hold the power button down (instead of going through the start menu) it stays off. Any ideas what this could indicate?

After I plugged a switched on xbox 360 into my outbound hdmi slot (don't ask why! :) ) I have had a problem with the laptop restarting on shutdown. I have tried cmd shutdown Shutdown in safemode Restart computer on system crash switched off in computer properties Disable restart in BIOS Wakeup switched off on every device in device manager Updating all drivers Nothing has worked. I still have to take up the battery to get it to stay off! Any ideas? Spec: Packard Bell EasyNote TJ65 64 Bit Windows 7 Intel Core Duo CPU T6600
