  1. Yes, thanks for that, but it is compatible (Exactly the same) and ordered through 'Crucial' after the system scan. Is it just me or do people not read the previous info?! No offence, but as I've said b4: I did a system scan using 'crucial.com/uk', which stated what type of module I needed for the laptop. I ordered the exact module as recommended. Crucial and HP state that the HP 550 accepts 4gb ram. There is only one module currently fitted a 2gb ram module. I fitted the the new 2gb module in the empty slot to get 4gb ram, but the laptop won't boot as I've stated above. The new module is exactly the same and works on its own in either slot as does the older module, so both modules are fine and so are both slots. If anyone has an solution please respond
  2. XP Pro with 2GB of ram (Currently) which runs fine. When upgraded to 4gb ram, the start screen says that it recognises a hardware change, and the choices are given to save or discard. I choose SAVE changes. Then the laptop won't boot and freezes. I've done the Crucial scan as I have already said and it it capable of 4gb ram!
  3. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and the fan just stopped last week. I bought a new fan and fitted it and it doesn't work. I am sure that the fan is not faulty. What else could it be??? Thanks
  4. It's 32 bit and it's capable of holding 4gb Thanks
  5. I have a HP 550 Laptop with XP Pro OS installed. I doubled the RAM from 2gb to 4gb, but when I reboot the laptop says to save changes, so it recognizes a memory change, but then it wont boot into windows and hangs up between the loading screen and the welcome screen. There is no problem with the memory module, it is compatable and works on its own and in both slots, so both slots are good to go too. It just wont boot with 4gb of ram. I have read lots of things about the BIOS wont let you upgrade to 4gb, but HP say there should be no problems at all. Bios version is KBC version 12.00. Laptop has Intel Celeron R 550 @ 2Ghz, currently 2 gb memory and 160gb hard drive. Any help would be great? Thanks
  6. A bit of gaming (not online), watching movies, downloading music and films and use the PC as a general home PC, nothing too serious, but I want it to be good.
  7. Thank you for picking me up. I called virgin as I discovered that they had given me such a pants router, so after a moan I have a new one....problem solved. Thanks anyway!
  8. Hello! How good or bad is 'Intel HD Graphics 2000' ? Should I get a 'Novatech GeForce 210 1024MB GDDR3' graphics card or stick with the above intel ? Thanx
  9. Hi I've just got a new desktop, which I have set up away from my router. It's only in the next room and about 7 metres away from the router, but the signal is pants and connection drops out every 2 minutes. I think that my wireless PCI card is a basic model. what's the best option to boost the wireless signal? 1. A high gain wifi antenna? or 2. A better Wireless PCI Card? - such as http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/networking/wirelessnetworking/wirelesspcicards/nov-npci.html What other options are available? I want to spend as little as possible. Thanks
  10. I have resolved the issue...!
  11. Hi I'm doing a clean/custom install of W7 Ultimate 64 bit using a Genuine iso file. I am then creating a bootable disk using 'Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool', which all seems to work fine until I get to a part of the installation that says "THAT THE INSTALLATION DISK IS CORRUPT OR FILES MISSING". What could be the problem? Any advice would be great?! Thanks
  12. Thanks for your advice, but how can I download it to a new machine without an OS to connect to the internet? Can I download W7 to a disk? if so, is it pretty straightforward. Thanks
  13. I want to install W7 64 bit Ultimate edition onto a new clean machine and I was wondering if the following scenarios are possible or not? 1. Install Windows Vista 32 bit (which I have already) on the new machine and then download a "Full Retail Version 32 or 64 bit (Digital Download) and activation key" as it's cheaper to get an upgrade version. Or is it possible to, 2. Download a "Full Retail Version 32 or 64 bit (Digital Download) and activation key" onto a disk using my laptop and then install it on the new machine? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  14. Everytime I open Internet Explorer 9 with the sound on, I get an annoying voice telling me how to clear my cache from internet explorer speach. How can I stop this as it's sooooo annoying?
  15. Does that mean that the time changes will not be anywhere on the system? So if someone changed the BIOS time and then booted to windows, they could write a new document or download something at a backdated date and there is no way that I can prove that they did that? Thanks
