thanks kenB for your help.i did get the anser though from starbuck who thought it may be a file association problem,i had to get someone to help follow the instructions and it worked a treat,once again thanks.

no mate i had a try but it it wouldnt let me and i dont no if i was doing it right.but when i tried to download from other sites to retrieve the files etc they wouldnt download either.

no mate it said 404 file not found may have been removed or name changed etc.

oh sorry i dont have recovery disks but i do have a disk sayingmicrosoft works but the player doesnt seem to want to work either,i have tried it hoping it mighrt give me some idea of what was wrong but without success.

no ive already tried that,if it means anything,when i try to access the control panel it comes up but when i choose an option it tells me that the app cant be found,it does this on a few things.also i tried to access solitaire from the start menu and it asks me which program i would like to open it with,but it lets me open docs and other things tho.

sorry havent got back to you,but it wont let me restore it wont realy let me do anything.i am sure it is because i deleted something to do with dell network things,i cant even retrieve anything as much as i have tried ,but i must thank you both for trying to help.

i have found that and it still wont let me access it,i have got onto internet explorer through some file but i am not sure how,and it isnt running properly anyway.it also wont let me access other things like control panel,or games etc i am sure i have deleted something i shouldnt have,it also wont let me download anything as i tried to recover whatever i have lost through other programs but couldnt.i think maybe something needs reinstating but i dont jnow what or how and i am limited to what it will let me do.

no when i click on my computer it doesnt show any program files just shared documents,my documents,hard disk drives local disc c ,dvd drive d, and a picture of a cd\dvd saying works7(e:).thats all.

hi kenB yes it says that in target,in teh shortcut it says none and in start in it says %homedrive%%homepath% thanks again.

jamesand thanks for replying but i mustnt have explained properly about my problem,i still have my shortcut icons but they dont take me to internet explorer.i think i may have removed something to do with dell programmes as i tried to go to dell network assissant an my pc told me it couldnt find it ,which it is saying about other things i am trying to access.i hope that can maybe give you a better idea as to what i have done wrong .once again many thanks.

i have somehow while deleting stuff removed my internet explorer from my start menu,it is still on my pc but i cant access it without a lot of fuss.my pc keeps telling me it cant find the file along with other ways ive tried.my pc is a dell and operates with windows xp home ,i am afraid thats all i can tell you,i hope its enough and hope you can help thank you
