  1. if you have reseated/removed all items it could be the motherboard failing POST (power on self test) and could indicate a few things really, naff mobo, dodgy psu not giving enough power along the rails, or even cpu failure. not ideal in any circumstance one other thing to try is removing the f panel connectors for example front usbs, cardreaders or sound as sometimes a damaged from port can cause suspended boot.
  2. if you are still looking for an inverter i have one spare that you are welcome to have, i can mail it to you, they are very easy to fit should cause even a monkey no problems. i can even advise on fitting you if you get to stuck, :)
  3. +1 the above sound like your hard drive has sustained a level of shock damage, most pc repair outfits should charge between 55-70 to fix a problem like this with the part costing around 25-50 depending on size and type.
  4. maybe that the machine is not compat with usb cd drive booting, common in older business grade machines, i would plug the drive in to another computer and complete the first step of install up to the point it restarts and then change back to the other pc, it can cause a bsod but very ulikley, the other way to do it is copy the operating system to a bootable usb disk and try that method!
  5. anyone know of any good suppliers of hard drives in the uk, i'm not talking small one every here and there as, aria and Novatech cover that great, but anyone do bulk ordering on these types of products and where from?
  6. i currently use both, windows and apple for my work and i must say i really am swaying towards the mac, its a very simple interface thats easy to grasp the mac touch pad is genuis and works fantastic for me in cs5 and things just work, say plug in my canon photo printer, no disc just plug it in apple auto found all needed drivers and installed them so by the time i was read to print my first page it had all self installed and was work a treat! and aperture photo editing suite is so brilliant i would probably would go as far as saying its better than photoshop! and safari works a hell of a lot better than IE
  7. just advised on someone else with the same problem as i was just saying, these machines came with a dedicated graphics card which is really really prone to overheating and would cause a similar problem to what you are experiencing, and if i remember correctly later models had earthing straps as users used to get shocks from the aluminium top casing which would cause exactly the same problem
  8. quite a common complaint/problem with the 1530 xps is that the graphics card overheats on the machine, do you ever get a little shock from the metal casing at all? firstly i would try taking the battery out, disconnecting the power lead and pressing and holding the power button for around ten seconds, sounds stupid but it disperses all built up static and residual energy in the system, after that plug back in and try and turn on the machine, it should hopefully the boot for you, i have had around 5 of these in the workshop this year alone all with that same complaint, it even happens on the 1330 which is pretty much identical just 13 inch screen, let us know how you get on :)
  9. very sound advice! the 5770 is a good quality mid range card and should fit fine in your hp case as more recently HP retail casings are getting more and more limited for space inside. but as it is not a massive card all should be well :) and if you have a low profile hp case just make sure it has the low profile bracket in the box also.
