Here's a fun one for you guys, Asus support said they've never heard anything like this before: My new laptop detects my home's wireless signal with 4-5 bars, but after prompting for passkey, it nearly immediately refuses to connect. The issue isn't with the passkey because I've also tried this with no security enabled.
Here's some background on the subject:
I'm a computertard so I'm just trying everything I can to figure this out, needed this up and running 3 days ago http://forum.notebookreview.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Bought an Asus G73sw-xn from Newegg for 1,189, but after opening it up, I quickly found that it could see my home's wireless connection fine, but just wouldn't connect.
a. Connects to Android wireless Hotspot fine, so assuming the wireless capabilities do work in some degree
b. Ethernet works fine, but my house only has one wired port and that's for the desktop
c. Windows Diagnostics Troubleshooting points the problem at the router and suggests reset, did that, no change
d. Had a computer friend go through my wireless settings, didn't see anything that would hinder a connection, dad's windows 7 laptop connects fine usually.
e. Updated Atheros Driver to latest version suggested on the G73sw's Owner's lounge, didn't even notify me clearly that it was complete (although that could just be back ui), no change
1. Main thing that seems to go wrong is that I have to use 10.0.0.1 instead of the normal 192.168.1.1 that most people use to access Netgear, and when I'm in there, the search for firmware fails and if I recall properly, when I tried to manually update firmware through the upload option, that failed too.
2. Second thing that stands out is, when Asus support had me uninstall the Atheros AR9285 device and reboot my system, there was an error saying it couldn't install the hardware and supposedly the device was supposed to reinstall itself? I did a factory restore and got the device back in device manager, but it seems to me something is irregular here?
In a rush to fix this issue, so unless I can figure this out in the next two days, I'm thinking about returning the laptop or buying a new router.
I've never switched a router before so is any downloading or changes have to be done to all my home's computers if I get a new one? And which routers would be suggested for the Asus G73SW?
I'd rather get a new router since I don't know how Newegg's return policy works and I think it's mainly the router's fault anyways
Thanks in advance for the help!
