yes Ken I'm up and running now, and thanks to all who took the time to help, and answer my sometimes daft questions

I know the laptop was not dropped, I was just a bit concerned about it breaking as it was only 5 months old... so a computer virus could not of caused the hard drive to fail? (BTW I didn't have a virus lol just curious)

hi everyone, just an update on this....I sent the laptop back to Acer as it was still under warranty, they couldn't get it to boot either and had to put in a new hard drive I know this may sound a daft question but why would a hard drive stop working in a new laptop?

yes there is a green light with the battery and with adapter, but no hard drive noise, it flashes up the logo Acer then goes to a blue screen every minute the logo flashes again...Also when I power on/off it's instant with no noise, which makes me think it's not closing down

f8 wont work ken cause it's not booting up

hi nev I took the battery out but it's still the same, is there anything else I can try? I just need it to boot up

I have held the button down for 20-30-40-60 seconds and nothing happens, is there any other way of turning it off guys? also do you think I have a virus?

forgot to say laptop was on a work top so don't think it was over heating

hi everyone, my grandchildren have just been playing a kiddie game and a message popped up saying windows was closing to prevent any damage, I am now left with a blank screen, it wont shut down so I can not get into safe mode, can anyone help me please??
