  1. Hi, thanks for replying. Still having probs but not been online due to Virgin cutting us off by mistake! Right.........it says 96 MB RAM Virtual memory is set to 246 I have done countless virus scans including the one you suggested and its clean. Also run Adaware and spybot and both clean. In MSCONFIG i noticed that the viruses that were successfully removed are listed in the start up list but ARE disabled. These are not pick up by scans now, but thought i'd mention it. Also pc seems fine when its been on for a good while. At start up its a good hour before i can acces any folders, internet etc. Any help is very much appreciated. Lisa
  2. No thats not working either! Heres the wierd bit.............. when i type a random word as the password (yes i'm getting desparate) it comes up straight away that its not correct. Now when i type the right password (and i know its right lol) i get the little spinning graphic as if its loading up and then after about 20 seconds it says its not right !! Could it be a virus? Is there a default password? Im desperate now, wish i'd done the bloody dishes meself! Im on a crappy old pc thats got its own mid life crisis, wont do as its told and crashes when you think youre getting somewhere, but thats a whole other story! The pc im locked out of is pretty new, and ive nothing to lose on it, so im ready to try anything if needs be. (and the worst thing?...........my password hint i thought up to annoy the kids is......"Ha ha ha you cant get in"........classic eh?)
  3. I've put a password on my pc to stop the kids getting on when theyre not doin as theyre told:> Thing is, when i was prompted to restart my pc, on start up when it asks for the password, i type it in and it tells me its wrong. I know the passwords right what im typing, and ive not got caps lock on, though i have tried it with that on too! Its just not letting me in! Does anyone know how to get past it or what to do. I know thats what its there for, to stop people getting in, lol but there must be a way! It asks for a password reset disc, which silly me never made, as it never occured to me that i'd need it. Im running windows vista on a HP Pavillion slimline. Please help! lisa
  4. I am trying to sort a pc out that i lent to my niece, it come back with viruses and spyware which i have successfully removed (checked with many scans etc). The main problem seems to be that 9/10 windows that i open freeze and i get the "not responding" message. I keep getting a message about not enough memory but its hardly got anything on it. I have noticed in device manager that RAID controller is disabled, could this be the problem? Thanks for any help. lisa The pc is a 220 Emachines (thats all i can find) running windows xp antivirus: Avast free edition & Spybot
