  1. mh2, Thank you for your reply. I moved the kindle nearer to the router and bbc iplayer worked well. However, what I would like to do is to be able to use the iplayer on the kindle downstairs, further from the router which is upstairs near my desktop. Do you have any suggestions about how I might accomplish this. Peter1929
  2. Hi, I found some old "floppy disks" in a cupboard recently and thought I would try them out. On the disks it says that they are formatted. If I try to open the disk to see if there is anything on it it says it is not formatted and would I like to format it. If I click Yes it says that it cannot be formatted. If I try to load something onto the disk I get the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am running WXP Home on a desktop. PeterD.
  3. Outlook express folders query solved Hi, I solved this myself. Solution is : Click View (in Toolbar) then Layout, then Folders List, then Apply. Sorry to take up your time. PeterD
  4. Thank you for your reply. No, in fact there is no folder tree on the left hand side. The panel that contains it has gone missing. That of course is what I want to get back. PeterD
  5. Hi, I feel slightly embarassed asking this as I've been sending and receiving emails for longer than I care to remember. I am running WXP Home with outlook Express. Problem is I don't seem to be able to access any folders except Inbox. How do i get to Sent Items, Outbox, etc? Best, PeterD
  6. I found recently that if I opened a jpeg file (a single photo) and then clicked on the "next" or "previous" image button I got some more images (photos that are on my desktop). I want to send the first image referred to above as an email attachment but I do NOT want the recipient to get other images by clicking the "next" or "previous" button. Also I don't really want other images "attached" in this way to single photos on my desktop. What can I do about this? I am running WXP Home on a desktop. PeterD
  7. Thank you Jelly Bean & Starbuck. No, Jelly Bean I'm not offended by your reply. You're quite right that I'm lazy. I might also describe this as not wanting to spend time unnecessarily looking things up or getting a book that is only somewhat helpful. You're quite right that I'm a Silver Surfer. To make it clearer what I am looking for. What I want is a book that describes the development of computer and related technology from (if possible) both an historical and a technological viewpoint so that I will be able to get an overall view of this development and see how the various details fit in as well as knowing how the various "bits" fit in and what the words mean. Do you know if such a book exists and, if so, the title and author. A possible alternative might be a (preferably free) online course that will give me the same information. Best wishes, PeterD
  8. Hi, I'm new here so hello and I hope you can help. I hope I'm in the right forum but if not please let me know. My problem is that I am physically and mentally still in the last century as far as computer knowledge goes. Physically I am running WXP on a desktop though I am on broadband and do have an LED monitor). Mentally I hve not really followed developments in computer and mobile phone technology. E.g. I just about know what a Blackberry is and I don't understand words like skype, etc. I realise that I could of course look things up but what I would really like is a book that will if possible "take me by the hand" and appropriately inform me. Does such a book exist and if so what are the title and author? Looking forward to hearing from you, PeterD
