  1. Painfully slow progress... Ok so, same problem again this evening. I turn my computer on at the mains, hit the power button, and although it makes a noise, the monitor comes on, then switches to sleep mode. I turn the computer off, and leave it for a bit, turn it back on, the monitor stays on for a little of the boot sequence, then shuts off into sleep mode.... Turning off, then on again after a brif rest period allows me to get further through the boot sequence before the monitor switches to sleep mode. Finally....I turn the computer off, let it rest for a few minutes, and then on again. It boots up, reaches the login screen, allows me to enter my password and loads my desktop etc. The system fans slow once the desktop etc is all loaded....then....the monitor switches into sleep mode, the fans start to spin loudly again as if the system is performing some major task. The monitor then sits in sleep mode while the system fans whir away....and now (without me going anywhere near it) the system has rebooted itself twice, and finally allowed me to log in again. It's nice once the computer is finally up and stable and useable...but to take over an hour to get the system to stay on and the monitor to stay "awake"....that's not really how I want the system to run. Such erratic behaviour and i've gotta admit, I'm totally clueless with regards to where to start looking for a solution. Any help would be immense :) .....and the monitor has gone off again, just a few minutes later.....I'm gobsmacked
  2. Hi there. I'm new to the site/forum so I appologise if this is in the wrong place. Although I say the problem surrounds the monitor, I feel it's the computer system itself that's causing the problem. I've got a custom build desktop pc,, AMD Phenom 2 Quadcore etc...with Windows XP Pro. Recently when I come home from work and turn on my computer, the system itself boots up, but the monitor either 1) automatically goes straight to sleep mode, or 2) shows part of the boot sequence (Tonight it has shown me up to the windows XP loading screen, just before login screen appears) and then the monitor suddenly switches into sleep mode. I've already tried changing the cable from graphics card to monitor. I've tried using the onboard HDMI port instead of my graphics card (still the monitor stays in sleep mode). I've also tried using a second older monitor which also seems to switch straight into standby. I can see and hear all the fans, I can hear the HDD working away etc...but still nothing on the screen. This will go on for an hour or so, then after a while of poking and prodding I will eventually manage to get the monitor to come on. But it takes much time and effort. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem? Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated. Kez
