  1. And now a new problem, all was working well remotely until just now I'm away from home, trying to access my PC, Its booted up to a black screen ( can see it on an IP webcam) and there its stuck I have an IP address i can use with wake on lan as well as the PC ( the one thats stuck) mac address and nothing else i can send a ping command to the ip address (ping ADDRESS) and it appears to work. Nether Teamviewer or Chrome remote desktop see the P.C, and both report it as offline. I have no physical access to this PC for a week
  2. Seems to tally with everything else ive read about this issue, non UK based Customer support failing to understand something that probably isnt on their script. Also see here: https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Let-s-beat-the-scammers-together/Teamviewer-is-being-erroneously-blocked/td-p/2143104
  3. update: the thing updated again, but this time all appears OK ( shouldnt have said that as tempting fate)
  4. Do you use talk talk, or any other company that uses talk talks systems ( ie chess) ? If Talk talk, or a company that uses talk talk as a wholesale network is in the chain, either at the remote end, or the end with the PC then its most likly an issue with talk talk as they are blocking access to Teamviewer see here https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/12/uk-isp-talktalk-blocks-popular-internet-vpn-tool-teamviewer.html In my opinion this is somehtig that Talk talk should be working on, blocking a ( useful) tool because phone scammers pretending to be talk talk is not much better than blocking the entire internet as there are scams out there. If you are relying on remote access software it may be worth while having a back up service, I also use Google Chrome remote desktop that can be loaded into the chrome broweser on the remote PC and works in the background
  5. looks like i will have to sit back and wait - or hopefuly microsft will fix it all. Now i have another issue, everything appears to boot as normal, but every now and again it gets stuck on the Windows splash screen - the picture before the password/user log in
  6. And its all back working again - now the pesky updates has been rolled back Does anyone at Microsoft pay any attention to the feedback left ( ie why do you want to roll back/un install)? and the next thing to look for is how to stop the thing form updating
  7. Thanks, after a bot of searching online, it would appear that there is no fix. what is it with updates that make things worse??
  8. I use the wake on lan function with my home pc for remote access, however widnows 10 has just updated to the creators update and WOL now no longer works. ive turned fast start up off in the power options but no luck
  9. Fitting went mostly OK, ( after cutting my finger on a sharp edge in the case. Its currently sat with a fan on the side of the case bring air in, and the radiator fans pushing air out of the case. Idle temp is now between 32 to 40C and under load it gets no higher than 55c however with the fans turned to full via the fan xpert program the temps drop whilst under load to around 45c and when idle the cpu temp is approximately 10c above ambient room temperature
  10. Hopeful the annoying CPU temperature exceeding 65C overheat warnings will go away its currently chugging away at 55C idle lying on its side, going up to 68C when watching anything on you tube /iplayer. Stand it upright and the temp just keeps climbing about 1 degree ever other second until it hits 85, then suddenly switches off One thing i never quite got to understand ( and spent a while faffing around with) Should the fan blow air from the outside onto the radiator and into the case, blow air through the radiator and out of the case, or suck air through the radiator and out of the case?
  11. Ordered. hopefully will fit OK
  12. any thoughts on something like this https://www.scan.co.uk/products/cooler-master-seidon-120v-version-30-aio-water-cooling-kit-quiet-compact-120mm-pwm-fan-radiator-for-? Placing the Pc on its side drops the idle temp to 50 and load to 65 about a 10-15C differnece
  13. I'm just after something quite that cools well and doesnt make too much noise.
  14. Ive had the thing in there for a while ( few years?) so i've lost the receipt. oddly if i put my pc on its side( so the pump is loer than the cooler) it appears to be ok for a while Looks like it could be time for a replacement, any recommendations im on a tight budget ( under £60) and i'm after something that doesnt make too much noise
  15. Panel off, it drops a little although not a lot, and then soon ramps up to 70c+ I tried cleaning the paste+re=applying and its made no difference. There does seem to be an odd noise from the pump, sort of a whirring noise then it sounds as if something gurgling, then it dies down the temperature drops down to 50 for a while, before climbing back up to 60 to 75 to 85C then my pc shuts off
  16. Ive got a few issues with a CPU overheating, i have an AMD FX 8320 CPU cooled by a Corsair H55 all in one water cooler, well allegedly its cooled by that device, all has been running well for quite some time, but now i keep getting warnings about CPU temperatures via ASUS AI suite2, using that same app the average temperature when idle is around 60C, going up to 75-80c when web browsing/watching youtube etc. If i'm doing anything intensive the temperature sky-rockets up to 85C and my pc just shuts off immediately. I've taken the fans off, cleaned out all the dirt and dust but its made no difference, the only thing ive noticed is a slight sound, a bubbling noise almost like chips frying every now and again. any pointers ?
  17. Good luck with the repair, I had a similar problem here http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/16587-And-then-it-all-went-of#.VI4KYHvLKlI the Dead psu was tested using a psu tester, and the rest of it ( graphics card etc ) were tested on a donor - ie old p.c If you dont have the windows install disk, or your version of windows is an oem one then a like for like replacement may be in order. Even though I have a full retail version of windows it had to be activated for the new mother board using an automated phone thing, keying numbers in different boxes (1-9) then having another set of numbers to put in another set of boxes read out
  18. theres some bundled software called FanXpert as a part of something else called AI suite 2 that allows for the control of CPU fan and Chasis fan 1, but not the other fans, and the minimum setting for the chassis fan is 40%
  19. All seems OK so far, do you know of any decent automatic fan control software? Im looking for something that will turn the case fans on only when the temperature reaches a certain level and increase the speed as/if the temperature goes up, decreasing them as the temperature goes down. Also sat in the corner is the remains of a previous PC of mine, all that remains of it is a motherbaord/CPU/Ram the motherboard is a FoxconnP9657AA cpu Intel Core2 duo E6300 and 4GB DDR2 Ram not sure if it would be worth anything ( 7 years old) if i took it to somewhere like CEX? its other likely destination would be the tip
  20. It arrived this morning, just spent all morning taking the old out, and putting the new one in. it all went together quite well. Its booted up OK, (it even went beep) well booted up as far as the windows loading screen goes, but as expected it then blue screens, then re-boots then windows start error page. so it looks like a re-install windows job - fortunately ive got the disk/key etc and its a full retail version of windows. First time Ive installed a motherboard/cpu+heatsink etc for a P.C - and it didnt require any soldering :) unlike the freeview recorder that I repaired about a week ago - the internal psu had blown on that as well ( had to replace some capacitors ) , which coincidentally is about the same time my PC started having trouble ( re-boots etc) thats my ADSL router, freeview box and PC which all started playing up at roughly the same time
  21. thanks again - got the full retail version of windows 7 home premium,
  22. This is also within budget http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A99X-R2-0-Motherboard-PCI-Express-iControl/dp/B008RPZUZK#productDetails
  23. cheers my budgets around £75-£100 looking for something thats goign to be relativly easy to install durable and hopefully a little future proof as in will be able to accept better components cpu/ram etc if i should choose to upgrade in the future.
  24. again thanks, ive got no issues with a clean windows install, ( was expecting it anyways ) Just wondering if the other board would be a better one than the gigabyte 970 one. just thinking if i go down the change it route, it may as well have an upgrade along the way - or if its broken try and get something a little better
  25. Thanks again, no luck in Maplin the motherboards and a lot of the compenents have been replaced by toys on the shelves. been looking at this http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A99X-R2-0-Motherboard-PCI-Express-iControl/dp/B008RPZUZK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1417897705&sr=8-2&keywords=AM3%2B+motherboard+990 coupled with my current CPU ( AMD FX-8 8320 ) Asus amd radeon HD6670 graphics card (1024mb GDDR5 Ram ) 2x 4GB DDR3 Ram, Blu ray drive, SSD disk and mechanical hard drive. I*m hoping that a 600watt psu will power it. ( OCX ModXStream-pro 600w) [h=1][/h]
