  1. I see I have posted before - oh the joys of a good forgettory!
  2. Hi folks I am a 'silver surfer' who likes to resolve his own problems if possible. I run an elderly Sony Vaio and a tablet and am hoping for some help. ikaya
  3. Thanks very much Plastic Nev and RandyL, I think I shall just give up and buy a new printer. My patience is exhausted and, having battled with this for well over 4 weeks, I've had enough. Many thanks for your time and trouble on my behalf. ikaya
  4. Hi, it's a PSC 1610 but I've haad partial success. I've been looking for a solution and have managed to get the software installed, which is the furthest yet, by following the advice in this post: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup-e-g-Windows-8/HP-Solution-Center-installation-just-stops-c309g-m-Win7/m-p/2481089/highlight/true#M86689 The only problem now is that when I plug in the printer as requested by the software it does not recognise the printer. Does this mean my printer is faulty? ikaya
  5. Hi, I tried re-installing the printer with both AVG and the Windows Firewall turned off and this time got a pop-up stating that it 'cannot find' a certain file. I was unable to find the name of the file as the path was abbreviated but it was in the \temp folder where the installation files are. I'm totally at my wits' end now.
  6. Thank you, I use Windows Firewall and will try the installation with it and AVG turned off as you suggest.
  7. Hi, I use AVG Free and have scanned without any threats being found. When I insert the disc it opens and shows the files on the disc. I then locate the 'setup.exe' file and right-click to get 'Run as administrator', which I left-click. The full message I get if I try to install from the disc is: 'This software cannot be installed using the "Run as..." command. The installation cannot continue until this is resolved. Required action: Click Cancel to exit this software installation. Log off and then log on as a user with administration privileges. If there is no System Administrator, have the primary user of this computer install the software. Restart the installation by removing and re-inserting this installation CD.' I am both the System Administrator and primary user and have tried doing as the disc advises but end up with the same message and outcome again. This all occurs long before I even get to the stage of being told to connect the printer, which is why I was wondering about malware. Thank you again for your time.
  8. Hi, I've tried to install the printer using the original disc but it stops early on and states it cannot continue, wanting me to log in as Administrator in spite of the fact that I am this already. When I have tried to log out so I can log in again Windows automatically logs me in again. Also, as part of the installation it checks on the HP website for updates and states there are none available when I know there is a new one as I've downloaded it many times. I'm beginning to wonder if there's not something wrong with Windows. Could it be a virus or some other nasty?
  9. Thanks Plastic Nev, I'll give it a shot as I do still have the original disc. Last time I tired it, however, I had to download a new driver from the HP website so we'll see if it works. Will let you know tomorrow. Ikaya
  10. Hi, I have an HP PSC all-in-one which has functioned perfectly well for several years with my VAIO VGN-NS11J running Windows 7 64-bit. Recently it seemed to have been lost as Windows stated it was installing the driver for it. Since then I have tried to re-install it several times by downloading the 'latest' driver from the HP website and each time the installation fails, with varying error messages such as 'cannot fine ....file', 'error 6'. I can get it to work using a Windows installed driver but it will only print and not scan. Windows seems to have difficulty finding and keeping it. I've also tried repeating the installation with AVG turned off and after a clean boot but no joy. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
  11. Hi KenB Thank you for your advice, I had a major tantrum and re-formatted my hard drive so now it works. Sorry if I have wasted your time. Ikaya
  12. Thank you KenB, I shall let you know what happens. ikaya
  13. Hi, I'm having the same problem (seehere) with the original battery not being recognised after a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium. I've followed the advice above but have not been able to find an ISBMgr file on the computer at all. I'm using a VAIO NS11J. Can you please help? Ikaya
