sorry I meen hangs not freezes

Hi all, I have a problem with windows 7, every thing boots up fine I enter password then windows loads but I when i click on a program or browser it just freezes and about 5 mins later all apps go and I get windows has encountered a problem (or something similar). I have run malware and eset anti virus and nothing there. Any help would be very welcome. Dazza
