Hi all, my Acer laptop has started to be very slow, particularly with booting up the laptop and loading the internet. I have Windows 7, IE9 and an igoogle homepage. My internet speed should be !00mb with Virgin but recently has dropped down to 42mb regularly. I did some investigation online and was offered a free scan of my system by a company called PC Speedup. Stupid me, as after the scan they wanted to charge me £19 to find out how to fix all the programs that are running in the background or at start up etc.I already regularly use Malware and CC Cleaner. I would be grateful for your help. Thanks

Hi, I have been using the latest version of IE with igoogle for a while now. Igoogle is getting very slow, despite using CC Cleaner, checking with Malware etc. I have to keep logging into igoogle and it keeps prompting me for my mobile phone number. I want to change home page. What would you recommend. Many thanks as always

Trying to make a CD for my husband's car. All songs purchased from itunes. Think I have itunes version 10 at the moment. Only 8 short songs and using a CD-R 700mb. When I highlight the playlist I want to burn and click File (there is no option there to burn to CD - even though a window appears if I insert the disc telling me to go to File and click the burn to CD option). I have also tried right clicking the playlist but still no burn options appear. Can anyone tell me how to burn a CD - it is s frustrating! Thanks

Trouble maintaining internet - Virgin Media
Porge posted a topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, I have just moved to an area where I cannot get Virgin Media fibreoptic services. As I was still within my 12 month contract with Virgin, I had to agree to keeping some of their services, or pay a hefty fine. So I took out a contract with Sky TV but my broadband and phone is from Virgin (router is from Virgin too). We now have a terrible connection. During weekends, 6-8am and after 4pm the service is virtually impossible to access. (I have not been able to connect to the internet or have been thrown out 10 times in the past 24 hours). I downloaded a broadband checker and there are times when the service is 0.2mb or less. (It is supposed to be at least 10mb). I live less than one mile frm the nearest telephone exchange. Virgin suggested that I go and buy a new cable to plug into the ASDN socket, to see if the old one is faulty. Failing that, they have suggested that I plug the ethernet cable into the modem and the laptop, rather than use it as a wireless service (!). I have complained but am really frustrated. Can anyone advise on what may be happening. We don't download very much and are not accessing any restricted websites. Thanks:( -
Thanks very much for the advice. I'll give all your suggestions a go.

I have an old 17" laptop, which is 4 years old. It has an 80 GB HDD and 1 GB memory. The battery life is only 45 mins. I wanted suggestions on how to dispose of this, what should I do with it and how do I ensure all of our personal information is removed. I would be grateful for your help.

Just to let you all know, that two weeks on, my laptop is working just fine with no security issues. Firstly, I downloaded software to completely remove Norton from my system. I then ran CCCleaner I used: Microsoft Security Essentials Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Turned on firewall in control panel on Windows 7 Just goes to show that you needn't be afraid of all the "urgent" Norton messages on the screen advising that the subcription is running out. In fact, for all us computer novices, don't be bullied by these companies and save yourself some money. Thank you very much to all for your help and keep up the good work!

Hi, I recently had to do a full restore on my computer, after my daughter loaded some Lego software which went wrong. As a result I realised that I have lost a lot of songs on itunes, which are still on my ipod. I want to transfer the songs to another ipod. Does anyone have any ideas about how to transfer the songs from my original ipod back onto itunes. Thanks

Thanks to all I appreciate all the quick responses I have received here. I am going to take the advice to load the free software available. If I find any problems, I can still buy the 2012 Norton 360 at a much cheaper price online, rather than have Norton automatically charge my bank account. Thanks everyone!

I have been using Norton for years and have not had any problems with it, except that the last few year's versions are not very user friendly. Just had the email notification to say they want to debit £69.99 from my account for the next year's subscription. It seems to get more expensive by the year and wanted people's thoughts on what alternatives there are which are cheaper or free. Thanks

Thanks Ken but the box to tick full control is just grey and I cannot tick

Thanks Ken. Nothing related to Sainsburys in host file. So added your suggestion to the bottom of the file contents but when I try to save to C: it says I don't have permission and contact the administrator.
