Hello, Yes I have. It's no help. Of no matter now, I've gone back to using the Netgear Nighthawk whose ReadyShare USB sharing sort of works, Thanks for your reply. Cheemag

Hello, I bought a D-Link 1960 router before realising that D-Link has no real support in Europe. I have done everything I can in the modem's management pages. The USB stick in the modem has a few directories and files, The LED on the router shows that it is present and while setting up a User the directories on the stick are presented. I select Root and made a user Jim with password January. The stick does not appear in Total Commander >Network but I do have a Dir-1960 shown; however there is little useful in that apart from a link to the router admin page, File Manager is the same. On an Android tablet, a search for net shares turns up 192.168.0.1 which accepts the user name and password but displays a blank page, not the USB stick. Putting \\192.168.0.1 into the Windows 10 search box brings up a blank File Explorer page. I can find nothing on the Web for this problem and others. The FAQs provided by D-Link are useless only a few FAQs which only go up to Windows 7 and a couple of videos. Their forums are restricted to users in the US. They don't answer emails. Any help or links will be greatly appreciated. Regards Cheemag Cheemag

Hello, Need help. Windows 10 v2004 on two machines 'A' and 'B'. Following Wednesday's updates to A that machine no longer appears on my local network. B can see itself in File Explorer and in my 2-pane file manager but cannot see A. A cannot see itself, but can see B using these GUI file tools. However, using the command prompt, B can read directories, copy files etc from A (and in the other direction). I have checked all the networking settings on A - file & printer sharing, discovery, passwording off etc. They are all as they ought to be. Any ideas ?? Regards Cheemag

[Windows 10 Pro both. Machine called BB has v 1909. machine AA has v 2004]. Need help with network. BB has no problems. AA will fail to show itself on the network, although it can see the other machine, the Readyshare drives and the TV. At BB command prompt, doing dir \\aa\temp will give a directory, but AA is not showing in File Explorer or Total Commander. A restart and a reboot failed to fix the matter (just after KB4566782). Then shutdown and start failed to fix it. Switching off and on again all the network discovery/file/printer-sharing/passwording etc settings followed by a shutdown and a start finally got it to boot onto the network. So what am I doing incorrectly or what have I neglected to set up ? Regards Cheemag

Solved. It was a matter of allowing apps to use the microphone. Thanks for your input. 73, Jim

New and updated install of Windows 10 Pro v2004. Attempts to record using Audacity, RecAll Pro or any other recording app gives an error. The error is mostly to the effect that it 'can't open Wave device for input. Close other programmes using Wave and try again' . Always something else is using Wave. I am not running any other audio devices that could be using the system. The error was there under Win 10 v1904, so it isn't due to a rogue update. External sounds are reaching the system via LineIn or StereoMix and can be heard on the speakers. Apps such as radio streaming players (e.g. Radio Sure), which make their own recording arrangement (presumably) record perfectly in .mp3. The sound system is the standard RealTek system and there is another sound system showing in Device Manager: AMD High Defenition Audio Device. Disabling this does not cure the problem. Can it be fixed, or is this a broken hardware problem ? Regards Cheemag

Can't Access Drive on Local Net
Cheemag replied to Cheemag's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I can actally access the individual directories, which I didn't realise were the ones on that net drive. I just can't access the drive as a whole, which is no problem now that I understand what is going on. Regards Cheemag -
Hello, I use a redundant 1TB HDD drive L:\ in a USB caddy as a backup drive on computer //BB Second computer //AA sees the drive on the local net but no way will it allow access to either the whole drive or to shared folders on it. A flash drive, also on \\BB with the same settings, can be accessed as a whole drive by \\AA. File & Printer Sharing is on, network passwords are off. Why the difficulty with the HDD when the flash drive can be accessed, and how to get round the problem ? Both machines are Windows 10 64-bit. v10.0.18363 Build 18363 Regards Cheemag

What a bloody mess the Windows update system is ! I'll have a look at these links. If no luck I'll have to run the system unpatched and rely on Kaspersky 2017 and a few other apps to keep the machine clean. Thanks again, Regards Cheemag

Eh? You actually mean there's no-one looking after my interests exclusively ? Shame! :o) Sincere apologies. One does indeed tend to forget that forums are run by volunteers. Sorry. The problem with one of my Windows 7 Pro machines is that, although I'm prepared to believe that KB3125574 brings the machine up-to-date even though not all the updates may be shown, it still won't download and install updates. Looking for updates tell me there are none available If I ask it to download an optional update, it says OK downloading but never does 0% 0KB downloaded over hours at a time. Other two W7 Pro machines get occasional updates, so I know there are updates available. Any ideas would be appreciated. Again, apologies.

I'll look for another forum.

Good Afternoon All, I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP-1. I downloaded and installed the Servicing Stack Update and KB3125574 and ran them. This gave me only some 50 or so important updates. Since then no further updates have been notified although I know there are many pending (other two machines are updating). I selected an optional update for download, but I get nothing: 0KB 0% downloaded. Check for updates says none available. Any ideas ?

Hi, I have a network with three XP computers, one of which is a wifi-connected laptop. The other two are ethernet-connected. There is also a Windows-7 machine on the network. The three ethernet-connected computers can all use each other's shares, but the wireless laptop cannot. The same situation arises with the others if I disable the ethernet and put them on wireless: no shared network for the wireless-connected machines. I use WORKGROUP as a network ID and this is reflected in Device Manager on all the machines, however connected. Using the network setup wizard to try to put the errant laptop on WORKGROUP does not work: it tells me WORKGROUP is inaccessible. File and printer sharing is on. I must be missing something ? Regards, Cheemag.

Apart from reinstalling the OS, is there any way to fix this recurring problem where devices which were recognised before and are clearly identified by the OS, are not recognised at a later date? USBDeview shows the Kindle Fire as 'Kindle' along with version information etc, but the OS treats it as an unknown device. Regards, Cheemag
