  1. I only have one cd-dvd-writer.and only one PC.I will take the XP CD back to the shop tomorrow and see if it's faulty. They can test it while I wait,Iwould think. Does that sound like a worthwhile exercise? If it's OK then I will get back. Thanks for all your help Guys.
  2. Just checked and tried again.Nothing, saying that comes up,anywhere. Is it possible the new CD-ROM is faulty and cant read? If I quickly burnt an audio CD,would that rule out anything wrong with the drive?
  3. CD ROM is set to boot first. That part seems OK. The XP CD has been kept clean in its folder. No dust or scratches. Re This reg Cleaner.5mins before I downloaded it, I still couldn't install progs I mentioned.Straight after running it,everything worked fine.As you say my old reg Cleaner never fixed anything period.Just deleted.
  4. Hi Seth,Went into the bios and set first boot> CD ROM>F10>marked the Y/N red Box withY (save) Still won't boot up off the Genuine XP CD.At a loss as to why not. When the PC is booting up,at the bottom of the screen it has Boot off CD written with a _ sign flashing, then it still boots into normal mode. CD ROM flashes green for a short time then stops.
  5. Hi Wolfey,I am having difficulty trying to boot off XP CD. Followed these instructions to no avail. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx Read somewhere the "Boot from CD" may be turned off in the Bios. This is out of my league.Dont know how to check? If I could get it to boot off CD,then I am confident now I can do an XP REPAIR.:)
  6. Another prob I had just now and about 4 times previous,is my system freezes and cant even turn it off, even at the tower.Had to hard shut off at the wall just now.Turned on again and it progressed to the point of loading task bar icons and stopped for about 2 mins. Then finished loading.System processes shows 38 processes and around 5% CPU,on idle.

  8. Thanks Seth.Checked progress of Scan.30%completed. Found 2 Viruses and 3 infections so far.
  9. Hi Guys,Thanks for all your help. Seth,I have the XP CD Home edition, but this is unknown territory to me,I'm sorry. If I try and install Windows installer, has the present one have to be removed first? I am running a Computer Kapersky online Scan at the moment, but looks ages before completion. Wolfey, this is the Reg fix I used.It scanned and said I had so many problems.I ran the repair twice and immediately I could install Sunbelt Firewall, Google Earth and a couple of other programs. Just wondering,Seth could my registry have been so bad as to cause this installer Problems, and could this Reg Fix software been so good as to have actually repaired the registry? I thought it amazing that it made it possible to install programs again. http://www.glarysoft.com/registry-repair/ Will repost with Kapersky report.
  10. Will do now Maynard, and will get back.It will take a while, I would imagine.Thanks.
  11. Thanks Maynard. I run SAS free,Malwarebytes, and ATF cleaner regularly. This is the message I was getting, and attempted to run Repair, but got confused. In the heat of the moment I downloaded and run a Reg Fix Free software.I don't intend to use Reg Cleaners in future. I am still in a learning curve, as you may well have gathered,by now.:) Edit. I also run Antivir with full time Guard, and have Spyware blaster also. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353
  12. Hi Guys,I have been having a nightmare lately with my PC. Couldn't System Restore-Removed Zone Alarm-OK now. Couldnt install Google Earth,Live Messenger,Sunbelt Firewall. Thanks in advance. _________________________________________ Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 10:38:22 PM, on 3/24/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.3264) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avguard.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\sched.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Common\Google Updater\GoogleUpdaterService.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software\Personal Firewall\kpf4ss.exe C:\Program Files\OptusNet DSL Internet\DSC.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avgnt.exe C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TimounterMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Gmail Notifier\gnotify.exe C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE4.0\OpwareSE4.exe C:\Program Files\BillP Studios\WinPatrol\winpatrol.exe C:\Program Files\POP Peeper\POPPeeper.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Updater\GoogleUpdater.exe C:\Program Files\Qlock\qlock.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software\Personal Firewall\kpf4gui.exe C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software\Personal Firewall\kpf4gui.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\usnsvc.exe C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 -
