  2. just a quick update, upgraded to 1gb of ram and it seems to be running alot quicker, ill keep an eye open for another 1gb at a decent price and we will be cooking, so far liking the look of ubuntu 11.10, takes a bit getting used to but internet browsing seems very good, thanks for everyones help.
  3. bit of a dummy question now, so will i need two 1gb sticks? or can i just get one 1gb and keep one of the old 256mb ones?
  4. the motherboard is a nec (asus p5s800-vm) it also has abuilt in sis chip set (which doesnt support high res vga conection) i think it needs ddr pc2700 but where is the best place to get them. this is probably now off topic. have installed ubuntu 11.10 havent had chance to use it yet but did notice the 1366x768 support so happy days.
  5. hey all i have an old office pc, that has an sis chipset that doesnt support the res i want for my monitor in windows xp, so im jumping to a linux based os. any advise which to go for i.e mint ubuntu? and also how would i go about finding all the rite drivers as i dont have any disks of specs for it. one last thing, is it possible to increase the ram of an ex office pc? its 3.05 ghz but only 516 ram.
  6. hey everyone, i recently inherated an oldish office pc, its 3.2ghz but seems to take forever to load up and when it does it seems very slow, memory doesnt seem to be an issue but when i first switch it on im given the choice of 2 windows xp to boot, im about to change the boot.ini file but i dont think this is the culprit. any ideas? also if i totally start from scratch with it will i have to have all the drivers for everything ie wifi card, dvd drive etc
