Thanks Nev, think I have managed to find the area you mean but there are no red or yellow warnings there.

Printer is a brother MFCJ410 but I have tried it with another 2 printers (1 brother and 1 lexmark) and it still wont talk, printer works ok on another laptop with the same usb cable. Have tried using other usb ports but same problem. Printer starts to boot up and then constantly continues to do so.

After 6 months working fine my printer has stopped communicating with laptop. I have uninstalled and re-installed 3 times with CD and downloaded drivers. Printer appears on the list of printers but as not available. Printer works on other laptop so it is not the printer - help!
