I have a lap top and PC and both are doing the same thing. I have tried numerous different disks and makes, but cant write to ant of them on either computer. The pictures are from a digital camera downloaded directly to both laptop or PC. I get 'files ready to write to disk', click the mouse and get 'please load writable disk in drive'... When I look at the properties of all the disks tried, it states that every disk has no available space, and it is all used. Again this is several disks, tried on 2 machines. Both are running XP.

intalled XP but have no sound and basic video. Troubleshooters dont help. Looked in system info at sounds and display, and there's nothing listed. Get confused if this is a driver problem or a device problem. eg; is this because I need a driver, which I can download, or do I need to install a physical peice of hardware?

ok the 2 problems may be related technically, but they are not on the same machine. The internet problem where I am getting re-directed or errored, is on a PC, and the drivers; network card not recognized issue, is on a laptop. I used MBAM to virus check, found some stuff, but still get the redirection or errors (on my PC) ..and I still have the driver/ network card issue on my laptop.

I recently thought I was having a problem with Internet Explorer, as the links listed in search engines, were not working. When I click the blue underlined hi-lighted links, I either get misdirected to some other obscure sponsored type links or other search entities, or completely different pages, or sometimes I am just left hanging with errors. I thought after reading up, this might be a problem with IE8, but after ditching this and trying Firefox, the same thing is happening again. I have used virus checkers and they have supposedly cleaned up the system, but the problem still occurs. The only way I can get around the problem is to ignore the links, and cut and paste the actual URL into a web page. This then goes directly to the page in question. I have a feeling there is some kind of option in play here which should be turned off, but any help would be appreciated.

ok, the link still doesn't work, but I think that's my internet connection on my PC... ( links from searches get redirected, unless I copy the actual URL - this is listed under another post) Back to this problem, I got the same exe file from another source, loaded and run the exe file, but still makes no difference. I think you are right in the fact that I need the driver, but none of the one's I have downloaded work. If I look in the hardware under system information, of installed devices, there are WAN miniports with drivers listed as installed, but still does not show in network connections.

in network connections it just shows 1394 connection. In system devices, it shows only the 1394 adaptor, but in system information it shows WAN miniport installed, PPTP + PPPOE, both with MAC addresses and drivers installed. I don't know what these are, but if it has a MAC address, then I am assuming this is being seen on a network at the physical layer. Yet windows (hence laptop) cant see them as being installed...

link just hangs when clicking download option

according to the laptop manual, there is a section on WLAN, and this is the model mentioned '802.11a/b/g/n Broadcom WLAN modules:' so I looked on the HP website and it suggested I download a driver update file, which in turn extracted a list of drivers. I put these onto a memory stick and then tried to install them on my laptop, to no avail.

Having re-installed Windows XP on my HP Compaq 6910p laptop, there is now no network access, where there was before. I have a wired card, but used to connect to my router wirelessly. When I look at the hardware, it is only has the 1394 connection showing, and no others. I have been advised that this maybe due to missing drivers. I have looked on the manufacturers website and think I have found the card, and downloaded the appropriate driver, but the network cards still do not appear on the hardware. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
