My wife runs a business and has a website which has email forwarding to a standard Talktalk email address. So when somebody emails to info@mywifeswebsite.co.uk these are forwarded to her Talktalk account. She then uses an email client set up for POP3 (Outlook 2003) and downloads her emails onto her computer. For outgoing emails she uses an alias via a separate account within Outlook; this details the outgoing Talktalk server but is set to nil for incoming mail. We are not technical people but this has always worked a dream. We are hoping to leave Talktalk and to this end she has set up a GMX address. We have sought to replicate the above in exactly the same way but with GMX settings. The incoming / outgoing account works fine but the alias refuses to co-operate. I thought I would start this post and just see if anyone can offer any thoughts ... if you think you can guide me I would be delighted and would be happy to offer some greater detail on the settings that we have used, the error messages etc. Here's hoping and thanks for reading SimonF

Task Manager Issues I carried on "Googling" and found that if you click on view (in task manager) there are various refresh settings including "paused" - mine was set to "paused". I altered it to "high" and the list updates immediately. I hope this might benefit somebody else.

I am getting to grips with a new W7 Dell laptop and I am confused by the response of the task manager. On my old Dell laptop (also W7), if I click on the application tab, highlight a task and then click on "end task" it generally does just so (albeit that occasionally it will say something isn't responding). If I do the same thing on the new laptop it seems to kill the task but confusingly the task remains in the list as if it is still active. I wonder if there is some fix for this? Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Ken Last post - seems like this is a "known" bug: click here Anyway, as ever, thanks for your help:) Simon

I have done it Ken and it was very easy but I still prefer seeing the files there!

Hi Ken Thanks for the response and yes, it helps as I guess this is the proper way to do it! I suppose being a tad set in my ways it irritates me that the simple "copy" method doesn't work any more owing to (presumably) an "improvement". Thanks again Simon

Under XP I used to do a very simple back-up. I would copy "My Documents" to an external hard drive and then rename the folder with the date. In this manner I would keep several folders and delete the older ones. As long as the folders had different names there was no problem. Now with W7 if I try to do this it starts challenging me over file names as obviously the folders have files with the same names therein. Is there any way I can stop it doing this really irritating thing please? Thanks for any thoughts SimonF

Thanks very much for the post - didn't think anyone was going to reply. Anyway, I understood there was an Adobe toolbar - maybe I am wrong. However, and I am loathe to disagree with your post as I am very lacking in technical skills, I have found a way of saving as a PDF without copying and pasting. Cute PDF ... just say you want to print the web page, select Cute PDF from the list of printers and Bob's your uncle, saved as a PDF. Hope this helps somebody. Regards Simon

Hi. I believe there is a way you can save web pages as a PDF. I have opened a PDF document in IE8 and hit F8 and this brings up a toolbar but it then disappears when I close that tab. Is there a way that I can retain the toolbar please? Many thanks Simon F

I am going to sound vague here. I entered the router set-up via the browsers but I am not aware of interacting with a network ... -

Hi Ken Apologies - one for delayed response (working long hours) and two for probably being thick. I have gone in as you suggested and accessed the gateway, then into advanced and then WLAN - once in there I have seen WPS enable / disable - would this be the one? BTW - the router is an EchoLife HG532. As ever ... thanks Simon -

Hello Ken "Run" is different in Windows 7 from XP so hope I have done this correctly. Under network adaptors it says: > 802.11n Wireless LAN > Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller (NDIS6.20) > Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) > Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) > Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor May be of interest, the next heading down is "? Other devices" under which there is > ! Unknown device There is no monitor icon just an icon like the signal strength on a mobile. Here it offers only one connection: Talktalk - 16B6DO with a red cross against it. If you click on this it says: "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements for the network" and the "connect" button is greyed out. Incidentally, I was in Costas yesterday and it listed a whole heap of connections. Very grateful for your help Simon F . -
We have a Talktalk wired internet connection with a Huawei modem all working fine. I bought an Asus Eee PC netbook that I intended to use with a wireless connection. It has Windows 7. I have used this in wi-fi spots such as airports without problem. I have also used it at home with an ethernet cable. Both were fine. However at home it will not connect wirelessly. It recognises the signal from the router and gives me the option to do the necessary (I am not technical) by pressing the WPS button. It then appears to go through a set up routine but fails to connect and displays the message "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements for the network". I phoned TT - completely useless just washed their hands of the situation. Is there anyone out there who could hazard a guess as to the problem? Thanks in advance Simon F
