  1. Hi Dalo, Can you please explain the steps to create an ISO image from files and folders on your drive with ISO Buster I own the product and it is the best tool on Web for doing RECOVERY but I've not seen it used for creating ISO images like that. You can extract certain data to an ISO image but not exactly create and master like some of the other programs. If you know otherwise please share those details. I really like ISO Buster and if it can do that I'd rather use it than some of the other programs.
  2. hmmm... perhaps you're missing the point. Those you mentioned are good pieces of software and I do own them as well. In fact I own 2 copies of Alcohol 120%. Alcohol 120% though has very few updates and does not appear to have a thriving development department. It has fought with black listing as others have for a long time but often takes forever to get an update to get them off the list. Slysoft often codes around such black listing within a couple days at most and in some cases has done so within hours. Reported issues are fixed rapidly in most cases. I own DAEMON Tools Pro as it was the only tool that could do some of the things to bypass restrictions at the time, but it also relies on 3rd party for SPTD, Slysoft writes their own so they can modify at any time without having to rely on a 3rd party. Not knocking any of the tools as they're good, but I would have to say that Slysoft is by far the most responsive and active developer in this area. Nero is also very active but stays out of many of the areas that Slysoft deals with. There is no doubt that you can piece together "other" software on the Net to do these things BUT for many average users they don't want to spend the time to read and test and configure these other applications. I'm not saying Slysoft is the only answer out there, just saying it's a very simple solution and they do update often. As for GameJackal well it's a bit more than simple registry edits and again part of the selling point for all these applications is EASE OF USE, not how else can I do it and where can I configure tweaks. Contrary to what you may think I do understand what's going on under the covers so to speak and it's not just registry tweaks (though this site does not want us going into such details here) and I wonder how long they'll actually even allow this post to live. Install a clean Windows XP with NO software beyond what the OS has, then install a game with SecureROM and you show me how you can bypass it with registry tweaks alone and I'll apologize to you and admit you were correct here on the board. Nero is a great product as well (but a bit too bloated these days, but it does many things that people want to do, and in a single package). As for DVD Decrypter - well it does not do Blu-ray video decryption. There are other products that attempt to do it but most sites still recommend Slysoft for doing it. I don't do it myself so have not researched products beyond Slysoft all that much. As for resources, well I'm probably not going to spend the time to do all the results but suffice to say that all of them consume resources but on a modern system all of them run perfectly fine and if you're having trouble running any of them then you probably need an upgraded system. I'm not a salesman for Slysoft - just reported there was a change coming for a lifetime policy they've had in the past. I do think it offers some nice features for the average user that makes it very easy to do by a couple simple mouse clicks. I do agree with you though that for those that don't want to spend money and is not afraid to do some research and reading, testing... There is software and information out there to do all of this without spending a dime. I guess I'm getting old and lazy though and don't care to spend that time and energy anymore, been there done that.
  3. Perhaps you could share the names of equivalent software and the links to said software. I agree there is other software but of those I've tested, they are not better and I don't agree with your findings, so please share your recommendations, perhaps I've overlooked something better. Thanks
  4. Just a small note that the link on that page is for the older version. The current version is 1.8.7 Unlocker Home Page Direct download for unlocker1.8.7.exe
  5. Thought I would pass this along for those interested. As of January 1st, 2009, Slysoft will change its update policy from free lifetime updates to an annual subscription fee. All license purchases made before January 1st, 2009 will not be affected by this change; as promised, all licenses purchased before 2009 will still be honored under Slysoft's free lifetime update policy. SlySoft announces this step in advance in order to provide its customers with the choice between the old and new licensing model. Buyers who act quickly can get an additional discount with the current ongoing special promotion. Until Wednesday, December 31 2008 Slysoft offers a 20% discount on all software products--except upgrades. 6. You also need to really make sure your Motherboard FULLY supports using dual cards (try to do searches on Google for your motherboard to see if any posted issues) Also that your PowerSupply has all the right connectors to use. Also that your Case will support the cards. These are big cards and often have trouble fitting in some cases. But, the single 4870x2 is a very good card at the moment. .
  7. Most of the items are a USER CHOICE item whether they use them often or not or at all. In general as long as it's not a hardware related item than it often does not need to be in the Startup group, or RUN entry in the Registry. What would be better is if you took the time to look at each entry and do some searching on Google to help you determine what each item does and then make an informed decision as to what to do with the item. Then in the long run you'll also learn more about your computer and what makes it tick. .
  8. Well overall it looks quite nice. A bit slower on page loads but not too bad. The main page though is a bit of an issue I think. The columns can not be resized like the other pages. Like this page here in the forum, if I reduce the size the columns shrink to fit my window as they should, but the main page does not. (IMHO) I think the main page should be modified to operate like the other pages and auto resize to window size.
  9. Well it sounds like the files were split due to the large size of the file. If that is the case then you can manually piece the files back together in DOS but easier to use a program to do it. I would also highly recommend using WinRAR instead of WinACE since it has pretty much become the standard used on the Internet these days. 12. Stop already. Too many good businesses either failing or being dragged way down lately. When will it stop. Certainly all this bad news will level out soon.
  13. By either doing a FACTORY RESTORE or by having a legitimate Windows XP or Vista CD/DVD and the License Key to install it. Depending on what you have for OS and Hardware as Wolfey basically says.
  14. Yes I agree the built-in is just fine, especially since most users don't need to run it very often. But, some users want other tools or methods that's why I posted this post. Then I can also use it for reference for links ;) Well O&O has tools to check the drive before running, the JkDefrag does not. It could very well have been that the drive did need repair before a defrag, who knows at this point but good to bring it up I suppose since the built-in tool for Windows XP does not have a checker either, and doubt Vista does either. So, best thing to do is run a disk check before doing any defrag with any utility. Thanks for bringing up the issue Dalo.
  15. Well that is being a bit too overly cautious I'd think. I've been doing Windows support from Desktop to Server for 20 years now and for very large companies and have used defragmenting tools on thousands of systems in that time (I used to remotely defrag systems over the network even) and in that time and all those systems I've not had a single system failure due to defragmenting it. Now I have had systems with Hard Drive issues and that's another story. Basically one should run a disk check first and verify that the drive is working properly before attempting a Defrag. If the drive can not run a disk check then obviously one would not try to defrag it. Some of the commercial defragmenting tools actually have disk checking built-in, though most of the free ones do not. Almost all of them use the Microsoft Windows API for doing the defragmentation and then they add little features to their program, but the underlying main code makes the same calls. You may need to disable your Antivirus (should not need to as it should be aware and not interfere with a defrag) to complete a defrag. Can you please provide links to documented discussions where a defragmentation program is 100% the cause of an issue and not just the user thinking it was the cause when in fact the root cause was something else. Now if you're speaking of Windows 95/98/ME then yes I would agree that there were many potential issues with defraging. 2000/XP/Vista do not have those same issues.
