Nah, all the programs are still refusing to connect, tried msn messenger and google earth. Both said there was no connection to the internet. At least we got rid of some baddies though =D

Hey Chiaz, thanks for your reply. Yeah, I'm using IE7 and it works fine. I went back to using IE7 after updating to IE8 and finding out it ended up having the same problem as everything else. I'm on the problemed laptop now =]. I have run CCleaner with the settings mentioned. I'll restart my laptop to see if it worked =] John

Hi people =] Got an annoying problem where anything that uses the internet wont connect. Ends up giving either a connection failed message or says "please check your internet connection". Started about a month ago when i went to use spotify. I know it's not spotify that caused it but this was the first time i noticed it. Anything I install that uses the internet, wont connect e.g. msn messenger, avg update, google earth. I think it may be a virus or some type of malware that is registering anything being installed and then blocking it maybe? I thought this because yesterday, i updated my os through windows update (it still works and so does IE) and it updated IE7 to 8. and it wouldnt open any sites. So i used system restore to undo the update and it was fine again (IE7). Heres an Hijack this log if it would help in identifying the problem? Hi peeps, hope you can sort this one out for me :P Recently reformatted my comp and everything is good. got ie 7 and still, its all good. this morning I turn my comp on, go on the internet, only to find it says "cannot display web page"... you know the typical one you get when your not usually connected to the net. ...yes I'm connected lol :P Utorrent works fine, itunes store works fine etc. unreal tournament game works on the net. It's just the internet explorer. Somehow I found out that if I refresh it enough times it eventually comes up, but this is anywhere from 2 to 20 times. It's not a weak signal, checked that. Best part is, I downloaded firefox just to see if it was ie7 (even after I reset the explorer settings) and it's the same on firefox (I clicked "Do NOT copy internet explorer settings and history") etc. I'm stumped guys, please help :( Thankyou =], John

Hey guys, im sorry about the long time to reply I've been away at my friends. With the event viewer should I post a log on here for you? And the usage is still the same after 15 mins. It should stablize straight after ending a game. The specs are Pentium D 945, OCZ 2gb 800mhz ram, 320gb hdd with plenty of space left. I've looked up other peoples problems around google who have had problems with an 'svchost' and have used registry fixing programs. They have said that theyve worked but I thought I should ask you guys first. thankyou again

It did start like that yes, but now it does it even offline :S And I'll have to pull out my old keyboard for safe mode lolthe one im using is a plug and play wireless, so when I go into safe mode seletion I can't use the keys XD Will try when I get home Thankyou guys!
