  1. Yipee, Thanks Blues and KenB - can now connect straightaway - am grateful for your patience! :)
  2. Sorry guys, you've given me so much help - I must be very slow:confused: When I put in cmd, the command prompt window opens (C:/windows/system32/cmd.exe) but right clicking at that point doesn't appear to give me the option to 'Run as Administrator' - only to mark, paste, select etc. I guess I'm missing something :(
  3. My machine is a Dell Dimension C521. Microsoft Windows (version 6.0.6001) I did follow your instructions but got the following response: "The requested operation requires elevation. Reseting Echo Request failed. The requested operation requires elevation. Reseting Global, failed. The requested operation requires elevation. Reseting Interface failed. The requested operation requires elevation. There's no user specified settings to be reset" etc etc Re device manager - there are no yellow or red exclamation marks. I can open IE quite normally following sleep or hibernation mode, but always have to repair it after a complete restart - ("This computer has no connectivity") Thank you again for your time.
  4. [quote=Bluesplayer Click the + sign next to Network Adapters to expand the entry. Let us know what is listed there? http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm#00 Broadcom440 x 10/100 Integrated Controller
  5. Thank you very much for replying. No, I haven't tried these suggestions - I'm afraid I don't know enough to know which of your suggestions would apply to my computer. My machine is a Dell Dimension C521, approximately 5 years old, Windows Vista - which phrase should I enter? Sorry to be so clueless :o
  6. For the last couple of weeks, every time I switch on my computer and try and connect to the internet, I get a message "Internet Explorer cannot display the Webpage" By pressing "Windows Network Diagnostics", I am informed that "there is a problem with one or more network adaptors on this computer" and I am advised to "Reset the network adaptor local area connection. This does work but I would like to know why I have to go through this process every time, after years of problem-free connection. Can anyone help?
