  1. Thank you very much. Actually, late last night I solved the problem, by going to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Device Manager. There was "Archos"! I right-clicked, selected "Update Program", and it told me it was applying "MTP". It appears that just installing Windows Media Player isn't enough: one has manually to apply its Media Transfer Protocol to the new device. Wierd. Anyway, thanks again. I suggest leaving this thread up because I found numerous references to this problem around the 'net, but not the "right", or my, answer. I have no doubt your way would work, also the suggestion from Microsoft Answers of using MS Fix-it. I'ld like to save someone else the stress of wondering whether they have bought a "white elephant"!
  2. I think you have misunderstood me. Forget internet connection. All I am trying to do is connect my tablet to my PC with the cable supplied. The tablet should show up in "My Computer". It doesn't. I have already installed Windows Media Player 11 as suggested by the respondent to Holmsie's post, but for me that has not solved the problem. Is there some setting in Windows which I need to alter? Incidently, my Kindle won't work with my PC either, which is why I am looking for some setting in the XP OS which is preventing my PC from working correctly with other devices attached to it via USB port.
  3. I have a new Archos 80 G9 and am having similar problems to the poster here. The difference is that I have already downloaded and installed Windows Media Player 11 as Archos themselves recommend it in their FAQs. I have also disabled my firewall and spybot prevention. The tablet knows it is connected as a "media device" but the PC does not recognise it. The PC runs XP. Help. I am at my wits end, since my object in acquiring the tablet was to use it to update office files without lugging my old and heavy, but still functional, PC around.
