Hello, am using a compaq laptop and am trying to turn on my laptop but it always come up with a black screen plus this message "Windos could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll. please re-install a copy of the above file..." this happens when i tried to install my new xp professional and my laptop suddenly shuts down..please help!! i also have another laptop which i use daily..it's a MSI laptop the DVD drive is not working probably...issue is..it reads DVD's and CD's but only wants to burn them doesn't want to play them need help...
