Just to save you guys some troubles here's the back of my TV, i assume SVideo is the yellow socket? I just tested some headphones in the audio out (lime green) socket on my pc and they work fine so it must be as you say apples and oranges.

Well the extra cables arrived but im still having no luck!
I know this is a very rookie question but just so im sure, which colour socket should it plug into on the pc, light green?
Also could there be a specific setting i have to set the tv to?
Righto, i'll do the sensible thing and order all of the ones you guys linked as they're pretty cheap anyway!
If that doesnt work i'll have to consider it a write off for now, thanks for all your help chaps.
Hmm strange! Could it be that these plugs are somehow too small and SHOULD fit? or even worse possibly the sockets?
Would it be risky to try using them? i can wedge them so they stay in but could it cause sparks?
Thanks for the welcome!
I will keep that one in mind but it looks like it has more than what i need, i think i only need the audio cable running from my pc to the tv, hopefully for less money.
Firstly this is my first post so hello =)
I have recently started using a tv in place of a monitor, for this i am using a cable with a HDMI connecter in the tv that runs to the graphics card which only has the older style sockets (so no HDMI to HDMI).
Because of this (i think) i have no sound from the tv. I purchased http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000NHOMSQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00 thinking it was the right audio cable but the two plugs are loose in the back of the tv and just slide out. If it helps the sockets in the tv are labelled red and white.
I'm now stumped as i thought these were the right connecters. Can anybody direct me to the one i need?
