im just letting you know that in the bios screen (advanced settings) it was turned off (disabled). Thanks for your help.

can anyone give me a few pointers, whenever i plug anything into my usb ports it doesnt detect anything, ive been told to look in device manager but its not listed (it would say usb port wouldnt it) please any new advice will be grateful. thanks ps if ive reinstalled windows xp do i have to get drivers or anything. where it says ports it says com and lpt, then under it says bluetooth serial port a couple of times, then comunications port, if that is any help

i was just wondering if there are any tutoriols on installing a second harddrives, imformation about formatting and partitioning etc.

im pressing f8 but its not letting me get in. when it is coming on that screen it is saying something like hitachi (my h/drive) and being disabled. if you know how to fix this, could you tell me what caused it a virus or something just letting you know now ive got it as primary hitachi etc.so it is finding my h/drive, but im still getting the disc read error

yes i can get that screen. when i look into advanced set up it says quick boot enabled, 1st boot CDROM, 2nd IDE 0, 3rd ATAPI ZIPC it is saying pri master IDE HARD DISC

sorry for this but i might sound a bit thick but i have not ran dscchk because the only screen i can get up is the one when ive pressed delete, and things like advanced set up, cpni and a few other settings. if that is any help, the only other thing i can say is that it is saying searching for boot record. i cant get to the screen where you press start, run, chkdsc. sorry again if i am

when it comes on it says searching for boot record from IDE 0. if that is any help, also i can get onto the screen where you press delete on start up to get to a screen where i think all the settings are. at the bottom of the page it says searching for boot record from IDE -0..ok. also how do i do the chkdsc, where do i print it thanks kilster

it is windows xp home, desktop, the screen i got into was blue screen and there was a list on 1 side and one opposite with stuff like advanced set up , bios etc. pncpi computer management it was the screen you get when you press delete when it is booting up. i hope this explains a bit more , i think its 2nd edition xp

can anyone give me any advice, when i switched my pc on this morning it wouldnt start(boot) it had a message at the bottom of screen which said "disc read error" ,. i have pressed f8 and got into the menu is it worth pressing the button to reset to default's. or will i have to reinstall windows(if i cant fix it) thanks for your help Kilster

can anyone come to my help because my head is working overtime trying to sort out my usb ports, the problem is that when i try to connect anything to my pc(via usb) eg printer, dongle etc. nothing is being detected. ive tried a few things like find new hardware and other things, i am not that clued up on pcs, i can do the basics (fit new motherboard, h/drive, remove files,programmes) like i said the basics. PS im not that daft hope you can help Kilster

im just letting everyone know that i have fixed the problem, all i did was to reinstall windows and everything is fine, so if anyone can take this post down they can. thanks for your help anyway kilster

tried all that still no joy, when it loads to a certain point it clicks then restarts, im re installing windows will that help, i set it to boot from cd. i'll let you know what happens

can anyone offer any advice with my pc, when i try to start pc it just starts toload then when it gets so far it trys to reboot again and just continues like this. ihave pressed esc or delete when starting up and gone into the settings, but i dont know which settings are right. etc = 1 boot harddrive, 2nd boot floppy etc,(its not set like that, thats just example.. hope someone can help. thanks.
