  1. hi again, some of the mini ones i have looked at have a graphics card allready fitted but i would need to fit my wireless card so then again i might be safer going for a full size tower and the ones i am looking at all have windows 7. are the micro motherboards more prone to faults or anything like that ? thanks again.
  2. hi, sorry, i tried the old one and same issue, im starting to think its an issue with the motherboard or the processer as it wont tollerate a graphics card being added regardless of the psu being more than capable and now the issue with on board sound so i have decided just to live with it for now, i have looked at some re-conditioned desktop "dell" pcs on ebay, ones that have been in offices and workplaces and alot of them have a superior spec to what i have just now and some are giving a years guarantee also, alot of them im looking at are the smaller "mini tower" (which i assume have the micro mother board) at the moment i have the normal size tower but that also has the micro motherboard - if thats what you call it! Am i better to just go for a full size tower with full size motherbaord? are there and dissadvantages to the micro motherbaords? are the full sized ones better ? i just like the look of the miniture sized tower. cheers.
  3. i am attempting to re-install this laptop back to a factory state for a friend, xp is stored on a partition of the hard drive rather than on a seperate disk (which is ALOT easier! but anyway). what i need to know is how to do this as i dont know how to get into the re-store feature, can someone give me step by step instructions please ? thanks
  4. hi, managed to format it then re-install windows 7 but no luck, problem still persists. im at a loose end on what to do now...
  5. when you say fully formatting how is this achieved ? cheers
  6. i think i will just re-install windows, if that doesnt stop the crackling issues then god knows, i forgot to say the computer had a new power supply unit fitted before windows 7 was put on, it was only fitted to power the graphics card that the computer seemed to reject. could it be the power pack thats causing interference? cheers
  7. hi again, i tried what you suggested, d/c from internet then turn off firewall etc but no joy, i have just realised that i have had windows updates set to important only so i am downloading optionals to see if theres anything in one of them that on the off chance may cure the issse. one other thing that has been happening since installing 7 is when watching video on you tube i occasionally get a message relating to "shockwave flash player" (i think thats what its called!) and "stop / continue pluggin" ?? cheers!
  8. hi again, yes i have tried that in hope it would solve it, no luck, still crackling. perhaps my computer just doest like windows 7 ?
  9. hi, no it didnt make any difference, it still crackles, i dont have malwarebytes and i have allready tried the vista driver from the acer website, the computer rejected it.
  10. hi, thanks for reply, its a 32 bit and it come with service pack 1. i went into device manager and the driver version was 6.1.7601.17514, i then uninstalled it and rebooted the computer, as it started back up it made the windows sound. i then went back into device manager and the same driver number was there ?? thanks
  11. hi, the computer is an "acer aspire M1610" it was intended for use with windows vista but i got rid and put xp on it and have since upgraded to 7.it has 1024mb ram and as for the sound it is the realtec hd audio. i posted previous that i also tried to put a graphics card in for superior graphics and do away with on board but that ended in failure regardless of trying all the points that were mentioned on here and couldnt get to the bottom of it so have put up with on board graphics and now this issue with the sound. if it helps the cracklings with everything, startup tone, media player, you tube. thanks
  12. hi all, as above although it may seem strange! since instslling windows 7 a few weeks ago the sound is very crackly, the sound is on board, i have been into device manager and windows says driver is up to date, its the best driver for this device and working perfectly, i thought possibly a bad connection in the jack point on the rear of the computer so plugged into the unused jack point on the front, same problem then i went and bought a brand new set of speakers...same problem !! ?? the speakers are usb powered also. help thanks
  13. hi ken, i can confirm i disabled the on board drivers and uninstalled old drivers before updating to newer ones. could memory be the issue as it only has 1 gb and 1gb is the miminum for a 32 bit windows 7 operating system so could it be the case that all the memory is being used up for the operating system ? thanks. thanks
  14. hi again, again no luck. could it be the "intel celeron cpu 430 @ 1.80ghz" thats just not good enough? cheers
  15. hi again, we used the drivers that come with the graphics card then we were given the option to update to the latest driver so the driver was the most up to date for the nvidia card.
  16. hi ken, we disabled the onboard graphics in the device manager, installed the graphics card and drivers and same problem, everything runs slow as hell!! so now wondering if its the cpu ? we have since removed the card and reverted back to on board graphics and all is very fast once again. thanks again.
  17. with any luck it was the both of them fighting and i can get the onboard switched off and the card installed as its so much better with the card.
  18. hi ken, here is the card i got http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331071250084?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 and no we didnt, we assumed that after installling the graphics card it would automatically take over from on board graphics, so are you saying my old celeron processor should cope with this card?? the computer has 1gb memory (2 x 500 gb sticks) if thats any use to you. thanks again.
  19. hi, update, i installed windows 7 and a bigger power supply unit to power my graphics card i bought to do away with the onboard graphics and then problems, when the graphics card was installed the computer started running v. slow even with a more than powerful enough power supply unit, we now susspect the "intel celeron" chip isnt good enough to cope with the new graphics card so we took it back out and all went fast again so we done a complete re-install. decided just to put up with the onboard graphics instead for now as i see i slight improvement with them now its running windows 7, and also regarding drivers for lan, on board graphics, chipset, sound, wireless card etc...windows 7 done it all, even my wireless signal strength seems to have improved! i used to have to go on the acer website and download all of these. if i decide to use my graphics card i bought then i think i will have to get a new motherboard, cpu, and larger memory. i was told the celeron is quite old.
  20. the LAN is part of the motherboard so maybe easiest option is to buy a card, my graphics at the moment are part of the motherboard also, thats why i bought a graphics card for some improvement. in regards to the LAN i will wait and see what happens when i install windows 7 first, if nothing then i will get a card then go under the floor with a long LAN cable.
  21. hi, thanks, i downloaded the speccy and went to the network section and this is all it says in regards to LAN WinInet Info LAN Connection Local system uses a local area network to connect to the Internet Local system has RAS to connect to the Internet assuming i am reading the correct bit thanks again.
  22. ah sorry ken, i should have put this in xp section. i originally had vista which im sure most of you will agree is crap, i removed this and went back to xp, now i want to upgrade to windows 7 so i have bought a copy which i do not have yet. im just worried i wont be able to find a lan driver, i have been on the acer website and theres lan drivers there in both xp and vista to download for my comp but neither seem to work for me. ( acer made the aspire M1610 model which i have available in xp and vista ). i dont know what i will do when i install 7 in regards to a lan driver.
  23. hi, i have an "acer aspire M1610" desktop pc. the computer come from the factory as windows vista, i wasnt fussy so i formatted and stuck xp on it. its not working so good anymore so i have bought a copy of windows 7 home premium, a graphics card (i want better as it only has on board graphics as standard at the moment) and a more powerful power supply unit as the factory one is not good enough for my new graphics card. I was told that because my computer was made to support vista then it will support windows 7 no bother as it takes up less memory than vista. anyway back to the subject, my internet connection is wireless but because of the distance from the broadband hub to my pc the speed / signal is crap at best. so i want to run a lan cable under the floor to the back of the hub to the back of my pc. i am trying the small lan cable that come in my broadband box as i have brought the pc to beside the hub but the pc doesnt even recognise its plugged in, theres a green light on aswell where its plugged in the the rear of the pc and also a light on the hub saying its connected. i assume its because theres no driver installed so i went onto the acer website and downloaded the lan driver for 32 bit xp but it doesnt seem to have done a thing!! acer only offer the lan driver for this computer on vista and xp so when i install windows 7 on it where will i get a lan driver as i really want my connection to be through a cable direct to the hub rather than wireless... help ... thanks
  24. hi, i had an issue with my xp desktop, something to do with a missing or corrupt driver and wouldnt even start up, i formatted it then re-installed xp to solve it, theres a couple of things appeared that i havent seem to have got or noticed after previous re-installations, firstly in the user accounts there was an account i hadnt seen before beside my own account and the guest account: "machine asp.net" (or something like that), i deleted it anyway but just wondered what it was for and secondly theres something called "windows search" that i havent come accross after previous re-installs and this also has something called "indexing" - a small magnifying glass on the bottom bar that occasionally flashes, whats this and how do i get rid? thanks
  25. hi again ken and nev just an update to say i got the new psu and all now sorted and to say thanks again for your help
