Had no problems since my last post?
-
Hi all, the above problem is now sorted. Sorry for the late update, but I wanted to be sure the problem was well & truly fixed. So my Son chanced a visit (covid) to weigh up the situation & the first thing he decided to do was to re-route a new telephone line from the original entry point into the house, to now enter immediately behind the TV & then to get a very very long high-tech, top of the range Ethernet cable made up by a colleague at his place of work. When we'd done the 'phone line, the Ethernet cable then followed alongside to behind the TV & the other end was now fed into the loft at the same point of entry as the original 'phone line, across the loft space & through the conservatory ceiling to where we'd decided the Wi-Fi booster would be, fortunately we live in a bungalow. So now, behind the TV, is the 'phone line & Ethernet cable connected to the SKY Hub & at the other end connected into the booster located in the conservatory. Never had an issue whatsoever since. What a guy. If he was still getting pocket money, I would have thought about a rise!!

No.1 Son not put appearance in yet. Since opening this thread, I haven't had a problem?? But when I do, it's when googling er! Google.

Thanks for your help. I've bookmarked this info for my Son to explain & do the necessary when he next visits, so a response might not be immediate. I've opened the links & am now completely flummoxed. As for the ethernet cable, yes I could go down that route (pun intended) short term, but totally impractical long term. Also I'm paying SKY for the internet, so a stronger router surely could be the answer, especially if an ethernet cable as suggested would cure it? I will respond with my progress, but it may not be imminent.

@ Starbuck, I'd need an awfully long ethernet cable. @ What the screenshot is showing, is the number of bars on my internet connection as being 4, other times it can be 3 or even less. During this short time on the forum, the internet has failed 4 times. The distance from the router to my laptop is app. 5mtrs. I have an Amazon Fire4 that my Son got for the TV which he installed last week. But this problem has been ongoing for some weeks now. I'm not too au fait with technology when it gets too technical. I still don't get Ken's Bottom left of screen Type in the search box - devmgmt.msc - then hit Enter Click the > next to Network Adapters Are there and yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?

Hi Ken, Sometimes yes, sometimes weak. When I went to read this reply from my emails, I got page unobtainable. I was about to take a screen shot to show you when I got the page back up, when the forum site reappeared!!! I've tried rebooting, but it makes no difference. This time I opened the hidden icons to reveal the internet bars, which were at a maximum, & my router was indicating full strength. Not sure about the above. ie, Bottom left of screen etc?

Hello all. For the past couple of weeks I seem to have upset Mr Google. I'm with Sky internet & at times have lost the internet connection, last week it lasted most of a morning. I get the message, page not responding, or, no internet, or similar wording, but then this came up, "Google has unexpectedly disconnected" What on earth is going on? Any suggestions gratefully accepted. BeeJay

Hi, I was told about a local chappie who's a retired pc wizard, problem sorted. I didn't ask what he'd done as I wouldn't have understood what he was saying, Telephone number saved!

Still no spell check when using email construction. Nor on the double blue lines that underline a particular word when grammar alternative is offered ???
-
Hi, Thanks for your reply, my system is Windows 8.1 I already have that set to spell check, but the option doesn't appear in the three dots drop down, but clicking on advanced further down, gives the option & is selected to on..
-
Hi all. For some reason my spellcheck is, er! not checking, although it is whilst I'm writing this & make a deliberate mistake, to confirm it is working, & when I use Microsoft Works to compose. But it doesn't give me the option to correct on an email when I hover over the miss-pelt word. Another weird happening is, I sometimes get a correctly spelt word underlined with 2 blue lines! again on emails. Hovering over this, I get a grammar suggestion, I've checked the settings & spell check is activated, can't see anything for the underlining though. Any ideas. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks Ken, I'll give it a try. Hadn't realised I'd had a response, the notifier didn't show!

Hi all, I have my laptop mounted on 4, 22mm supports to facilitate movement of air, but occasionally I get the message that my laptop is overheating. Not knowing what else I can do, I turn it off. I'm tempted, albeit reluctant, to use my compressor (gently) on the innards, but haven't done so, as yet. It's not as though it's being used for hours on end, but when not in use, I do leave it on at my email page. Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

Thanks KenB, My IP address & location as displayed on an email to me from an email correspondence. 5.68.255.181: Batley, Kirklees, GB No idea! You say you've looked at my IP etc, how? damned if I know how to do that. I'll hang fire on a restore.
