  1. WOW thanks for the quick response - I'm impressed! To answer all your questions in order.... - The link to the product details of my router is here: http://support.dlink.ca/products/view.asp?productid=DI%2D604%5FrevE Firmware Version: 3.53 , Wed, 18 Apr 2007 (pretty recent) - I am connecting via an ethernet RJ45 cable. The cable is fine (works on my other computer and using other connections router ports/ cables does not solve the problem. - I've had lots of practice booting in "Safe Mode" :-( - tried "Safe Mode with Networking" as per Kelly's suggestion here are some of the detailed behaviours..... -> power off power supply (i.e. the switch on the back not just the power button on the front), connect to router, boot in safe mode with network - a bunch of drivers scroll by quickly, system hesitates at multi(0)disk(0)....\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\mup.sys for a few seconds then starts fine. Login works, network access working! yeah Kelly!!! :-) -> choose "turn off computer" from Windows Start menu, select Restart to restart the computer normally - hangs :-( -> use power off computer and restart only from the front of the PC (i.e restart button or power button). Try and restart in safe mode with network - hangs at the mup.sys driver. :-( -> disconnect PC from router - restart again from the front of the computer - boot in safe mode with networking - hangs again. :-( -> turn computer off at power supply switch at the back - safe mode with networking - compter boots find! :-| -> choose Windows "turn off computer" select Restart to restart the computer normally (PC is still disconnected from the router) and everything is "fine". :-| Some PC details.... Asus M3A motherboard integrated 10/100/1000 NIC AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000 processor XP Home w/ SP2 Thanks for your help! Randy.
  2. I have a recently purchased a new PC for my home office. Network configuration is Cable (DSL) modem, DLink I604 hw rev E router (current firmware version) my old home pc, my office laptop, the new computer, and an HP printer. When the new PC is connected to the router, it will not boot. Hangs at the Windows XP logo. When the new pc is connected directly to the cable modem, it boots and works fine. If the new PC is booted without connecting to the router, then connected to the router, network access is fine. My old home computer and work computer is still fine. Hardware, Software, and firmware details available if anyone has ideas on where to go next. PC manufacturer says it's not their problem, DLink tech support says it's not their problem, my cable provider is the only people that really tried to help at all but they could not find the problem. (they blame the PC). Thanks in advance. R
