How do I get my Asus Eee PC series 900 to 'work'?!
NormanG replied to NormanG's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
We can try, Ken, thanks, if you think it's worth it. However, I managed to install Revo Uninstaller on D, apparently uninstalled Works from C, supposedly freeing 410MB, but, bizarrely, it did no such thing. There's still only a thimble-full of free space on C and Firefox still crashes. We can have a go or I can throw it at the wall! -

Thanks, Ken; well, removing Works and Powerpoint will free 460MB, so will see what happens after that. Will also see if I can install on D rather than C. I didn't think it gave me that option, but perhaps it does. -

Hello again, here are some of the installations on C that I'm unsure about in terms of whether they're essential or not. I would be grateful for some advice as to which I can safely do without and uninstall. Adobe Reader (128MB) AiGuru UI (21) Compatibility pack for 2007 Office (63) EeeStorage (10) Inter Video X Pack (18) J2SE Runtime Environment (119) Java (134) Live Update (20) Microsoft Office Powerpoint Viewer (61) Microsoft Works (401) Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (49) I only really want to use this netbook for basics; browsing, writing letters/documents, looking at video, listening to audio, nothing particularly fancy. For example, I don't think I want all the Microsoft Works, only Word or the equivalent, but can't see where only some elements might be uninstalled. I hope this makes sense and thanks for your help! Thanks, Ken. No hurry at all. -

Thanks for all that, Ken. I have looked at uninstalling, but don't know what half the programmes and so on are, so don't know if it's safe to remove many of them. I'll look again, though. With regard to the D drive, I presume it's not possible to - as it were - work off that one, where there's plenty of space relatively speaking? -
Hello there, this is all a bit random, a bit of a pig's ear, but any help much appreciated. I have acquired the above, but simply can't get it to work properly. In no particular order and with no particular logic: I can't update XP. It says there are updates, but they fail. I can't use IE because it says I need to upgrade, and it won't let me. I tried to install Chrome (my browser), but it won't complete, saying can't uncompress files, or something like that. I have managed to install Firefox, and it does work for a short while, but then always crashes. I have also managed to install ccleaner, but every time I try to use it it reboots. When I turn on I get a message that says: '.NET Framework: V2.0.50727 (Think this may have something to do with Skype, which was installed; or, perhaps EEStorage, whatever that is.) When I go to My Computer there are two disks there. C, which has a total capacity of 3.73GB and 47.8MB free. But there's also a D Disk, which apparently has a capacity of 7.49GB and 6.99GB free. That seems odd to my simple mind. Where is this disk, how do I find it, how to use it, why is it there... ? That's it, I think. I hope it makes some sense and would greatly appreciate any help going! Many thanks NG

A sticking, stuttering wireless mouse.
NormanG replied to NormanG's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
There are several people here, Ken. Does it matter? I've tried a wired mouse (which is PS2), Randy, but it doesn't make any difference. -
Hello. I'm not sure if I'm in the correct category here, but I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse (model S 510), which, by and large, has worked admirably over a good number of years. But - and for some for some time now - the mouse sticks and stutters; it generally works on delayed action if that makes sense. For example, when restarting my bird sounds, which I installed at the start of the PC's life, stop and start and break up. Any help much appreciated.

Mysteriouser and mysteriouser! Did all that (Use inline AutoComplete was already unchecked) and didn't make any difference, so uninstalled WM (from Live Essentials), told me it had been uninstalled, restarted, but it's still here along with all the email addresses in the drop-down! I wonder if a screen shot of the sign-in might help. Let's see if I can attach that. Thanks.

Yes, I'm talking about the log-in process. If I go to log in I bring up the WM 'box', where it says 'click here to sign in'. I click that and am taken to another 'box' which has two 'windows' for email address and password, and a small box underneath for automatic check-in. This is never checked. When I go to enter the email address either all the addresses that have been used there previously come up or addresses beginning with the same letter come up. There are no arrows, there's no remember me or forget me. And when I go to help or tools and options there's nothing about this. Ken, I got as far as Microsoft this time, but there's no Windows Live there, only Windows Defender and Windows NT. I've thought about uninstalling and then reinstalling a (presumably) later version which might either get rid of the pesky addresses or allow me to 'hide' them, but I can't find WM in Add/Remove; only Windows Live ...Essentials, ...Favourites for Windows Live Toolbar, ...Sign-in Assistant, ...Sinc, and ...Upload Tool. There are quite a few Microsoft .NET Framework 'programmes' (at the top of the WM sign-in 'box' it says 'Please sign in with your .NET Passport to see your online contacts, have online conversations, and receive alerts' and above that it says '.NET Messenger Service') but no sign of Windows Messenger, which is what the programme is called. Thanks all.
