I have ordered a usb to ethernet adapter. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Value-USB-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B000TV0640/ref=pd_sim_ce_2 I'm hoping that will be enough. I will give that a try when it arrives in a few days. If that doesn't work i'll go for a PCI card. Thanks for your help mate and i'll let you know if you were right.
-
Ok I tried uninstalling the network adapter and nothing changed once it reinstalled. The card link you sent me unfortunately looks nothing like mine. I told you it was old lol see attached pics.
-
Thanks. Ran that program, it doesn't appear to have made any difference. Also checked in tcp properties and both Obtain an IP address automatically, and Obtain DNS Servers automatically are checked. My pc only has one ethernet socket, so if that's gone, i'm screwed!

i see there is supposed to be a port number light on the right of the sky logo. I do not have that light.

yes

The router is made by Sagemcom. There is no obvious model number but it does have V.6 in the corner of the label if that helps.
-
Sorry you'll have to clarify which led we're talking about. My pc has no LED's at all. The router has 3 lights on, a power symbol, a transmitter symbol and an @ sign. No change in any of these when i unplug the ethernet

No problems on device manager. no exclamations or X's Properties says its working properly

Sorry ^^ this is nonsense. I tried again and actually opened a browser and it worked fine on the laptop. The not connected message i was getting was due to the wireless network being off. Sorry. So the cables and line are working fine. Its got to be a pc problem
-
Hi Thanks for the quick reply. That is all the dos window showed. Yes i ran it from a command prompt. When i tried to type it in the start>run box it wouldn't show. Now we're onto something. the netbook i usually use wirelessly would not connect via the ethernet cable either. I don't think its a problem with the cable itself as i had sky issue me with a new router and cable when this problem started. Could it be a phone line problem? My phone works ok and sky said they checked and it was working fine. So confused

Hi Guys I hope you can help me I have an HP PC running XP home edition which has stopped connecting to the internet. Its an older pc with no wireless capability. The connection is fine as i have 2 laptops which connect to it wirelessly. Its a sky wireless router. All services that should be running are all on automatic start.
