  1. After I enabled the thing in the BIOS, I knew I was onto something. After that, it was just figuring out which driver to install, and it appears the plain old non-HD Realtek Audio Driver was the way to go. Thank you for all your help.
  2. Holy shit! I cannot believe it! This actually works now! I installed the plain old Realtek driver, after enabling the thing in BIOS, and now it works!
  3. My sound is not working, no. And the status is: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
  4. Actually, another new device showed up in the Device Manager, and actually, I'm having some problems with it. http://aycu20.webshots.com/image/44819/2005003009568967660_rs.jpg It comes up with a yellow ! next to it. When I do a Windows Update on the driver, naturally it fails. I then went to the CMedia website, downloaded the driver, but it still shows up yellow. Is there anything I need to do to get the thing to detect the driver?
  5. I got round to opening up the BIOS today. The AC'97 was, for reasons I don't understand, disabled. So I enabled it and BOOM! Windows detects an Multimedia Audio Controller. So yeah, I'll probably have to install some drivers now, but it looks like I'm in business. Thanks to whoever suggested BIOS.
  6. None of this seems to be working. I'm going to wait and see if my new USB sound "card" does the trick and I'll get back to you guys if not.
  7. A download link would be helpful
  8. Pretty sure I did. I've been directed to a lot of different downloads. Feel free to link me to the bus driver. I should say: in my Device Manager, there is no Microsoft UAA driver http://aycu12.webshots.com/image/45731/2001174896577332606_th.jpg
  9. I tried the UAA, but when I install has the following: http://aycu20.webshots.com/image/45179/2003724606107673010_th.jpg
  10. Sound worked before I got my hard drive replaced. It hasn't since.
  11. OK, well I did a selective startup. I'm still getting exactly the same messages. This is my Task Manager (note I am still in selective startup): http://aycu36.webshots.com/image/43235/2002408008489690412_rs.jpg
  12. Actually, scrap that for now. I just bought a USB sound card off eBay for pennies on the dollar. So I'll see if this sorts my problem. If not, I'll come back to this fine website ;) Thank you for your help. It was appreciated.
  13. OK, well I went into Safe Mode and there was no difference in what I saw. Talk me through this msconfig thing if that's OK with you.
  14. I will try that. I should say: what seems really weird is that all the messages seem to involve the sound card already being in use. I don't see how this could possibly be the case.
  15. He replaced my hard drive, since the old one died.
