Hi, sorry that it's been a while since I posted but I only got the wireless adapter yesterday and I've been testing it. It seems to have fixed the problem - when I connect using it I don't get the 'unidentified network' message and I can connect to the internet. Something must be wrong with the computer's adapter, but I don't really mind since I can connect with the wireless adapter. Thank you so much for all your help :)

The driver software seems to be up to date. I've ordered a USB adapter, it should be here in a couple of days so I'll try it out then.

Chkdsk didn't seem to find anything, the sfc scan came up with the same results. Still no connection to the internet.

It seems to be having issues with the Windows Sidebar, should I try uninstalling that (if I can)?

OK, I ran the scan and it came up with this message: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. It then said these were in the CBS log, which I tried to get into but was denied access to. i rebooted, ran the scan again and the internet connection did come back, but only for a couple of hours. I then tried resetting the pov4 again but got the same message as before.

Hi, the netsh reset seems to have fixed it, although it does intermittently go back to unidentified network. It's working at the moment though, so I'll come back if it starts acting up again. Thanks so much for your help.

Hi, I deleted the adapters and rebooted, I'm still getting unidentified network. I pinged 127.0.0.1 and got 4 packets sent and recieved with no losses.

Thanks for answering. Using an ethernet cable doesn't seem to change anything. In device manager the following network adapters are listed: Intel® Wireless Wifi Link 5100 Microsoft 6to4 adapter (there are 8 of these) Realtek RTL8102E Family PC1-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) The 6to4 adapters all have yellow marks beside them, but I've disabled all of them and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
