Amazingly, after 24 hours the computer started up normally and is working perfectly now - how odd is that? Thank you very much for your suggestion though, I shall keep it for the next time I run a virus check. Dare I?

I recently had my computer cleaned of viruses and the technician installed Avast free spy wear for me. I was told that I should run the soft wear every month or so. I ran it last evening and now I can't do anything with the computer. I can turn it on but nothing else,not even turning it off. I tried to restore but couldn't get to the control panel. Any ideas anyone? Thank you in advance.
