  1. As you were...after about an hour the enclosure started reading the disc and shows up on the other laptop. I tried opening the `Users` folder, but it takes forever (blue circle and green bar at top still running). I can see the users folder, but it is reading as 0 bytes, as if empty. Any ideas please? And thanks again, really appreciate the help. PS I have an old HDD from a Dell laptop, which fits into the Toshiba...note I have not switched on yet. Will this work in the Toshiba. The Dell was Vista, the Toshiba Windows 7. Thanks again.
  2. Okay, I have put the hard drive into the enclosure, connected to another pc, the hard drive in the enclosure, the hard drive spins, the light is on, but cannot locate it on the pc, tried another pc and no joy. Do I take it that it is now had it? If so, is there anyway of getting any files from it? as my daughter has homework on it, and being a teenager did not think of doing a back up. Thanks again.
  3. I agree 100% Dokie, I am very grateful for the help also. As a foot note, I tried the Toshiba website and was basically refered to other sites. I then rang the Toshiba helpline, and was given basic info as my warranty had run out. They suggested I take out one of their extended warranties at £150.00, then send the laptop for repair, they would then charge for the hard drive, £100, to download windows and drivers, £30.00. all presuming it is the hard drive. I shall bite the bullet and buy a new laptop for my daughter. However as my laptop dates back to the stone age, I am going to try a repair my daughters broken myself as a learn as you go project. Will keep all posted once the caddy/enclosure arrives. Once again, many thanks.
  4. Thanks again, I will order the enclosure and try that out. Will let you know what happens. Cheers
  5. Thanks Nev, I will try the USB connection, what cable do I need, ie, HDMI to HDMI, USB to USB, or a mixture of both? Just as an afterthought, I had a similar problem with it when it was under warranty, 1 year warranty expired September last year, Toshiba repaired this July last year. I will give them a call and maybe their repairs are under warranty even though the manufacturers warranty has expired. Thanks again
  6. Hello again, I have tried to run the other version of Seatools, but still no joy. The model number etc are as follows.. Toshiba Satellite C850-175 Serial no. 7C196407R HDD no. Toshiba MK6475GSX(S1) I am resigned to the fact the hard drive will need replacing. I am confident enough to replace it myself, where would be the best place to purchase one? I still have the windows 7 serial number, but none of the original discs that came in the packaging. Many thanks to all for your time and help.
  7. Hi again, Changed the boot order, put the disc in and got the following message.. PXE61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE, CHECK CABLE RE-BOOT AND SELECT PROPER BOOT DEVICE EXITING PXE ROM Then the following appears.. A DISC READ ERROR OCCURED CTRL ALT DEL TO RESTART. After restart the same thing happens. ??????? Thanks again.
  8. Thanks again, Burned the disc, loaded it in, nothing happened. Do i change the boot order? At present it is as follows 1. HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6475GSX(S1) 2. USB 3. ODD - HL-DT-ST- DVD RAM 4. LAN - Realtek PXE B03 D00 I presume no.3 now needs to be no.1, using the F keys. I am not sure how no.4 came about, as I never did load a Realtek router, presume it is default item. Will keep you updated...and thanks again.
  9. Many thanks for the replies. The thing has gone from bad to worse. It no longer opens up, all I get now when it is switched on is the white lettering on a black background asking to plug in a storage device and hit any key, this then repeats itself. Or I get ``press control alt delete to continue`` I am not too clued up on these things but from what I have seen it looks like the hard drive has gone. If the hard drive has gone, can I still go back to factory settings? I will try the download on a CD to see what happens, but I think I am resigned to the fact a new PC is in order or an expensive repair bill. Thanks again, will keep you posted.
  10. Hello all, Help or advice please. Daughter`s Toshiba Satelite laptop crashed. The above error notification was shown, I rebooted and played with the F keys for a while. Managed to get it working but then crashed again. Now when I start up I cannot get into windows and get the start up fixing tool which has been running for two days now, even an amatuer like myself realised this was not working so powered off. Any ideas please. Thanks in advance
