Hi, Over the past few months I have become aware of a program on my computer ( Using XP Home). It's called Silverlight and although it is in my add and remove programs list, it will not let me delete it. It isn't installed on my computer because I have been trying to install it but it keeps popping up a message that the path cannot be found. I am using Sky website now as my homepage and it's telling me if I want to use their player I have to have this Silverlight program installed. So now I have come full circle. Can you tell me a, how to remove from computer and b, how can I install a working program of it. Thanks, Peter

Thanks for al your advice and replies, it's much appreciated. Case has been ordered. Peter

Thanks Seth, Have tried that but no luck. Either way, battery in or out still no luck. The item above by the way is selling for £2.50 on ebay assuming it's the correct one. Thanks again, Peter

Hi, We have (had) a Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook laptop, it's been brought back to life a couple of times thanks to this site and it is about 5 years old. Apart from it running a bit slower it still worked fine and was doing it's job just fine. Untill, that is, my daughter spilt some juice over the keyboard the other day, completely drenching it and now it won't turn on. Press the power button and the little green light appears then just as quickly goes off again. Tried to dry it out etc . but to no avail. So in your expert opinion, do you think it is time for the scrap heap. Should this be the case, can you tell me how to get the info off the hard drive onto our new laptop. Thanks, Peter
-
Thanks Randy, That's sorted it. It was the Dell link that I followed. Thanks again, Peter

Hi, It is a Dell inspiron 6000 laptop running Windows XP home edition SP2. Thanks, Peter

Hi, My laptop will not boot up at all even in safe mode. Whilst trying to boot up I tapped the f8 key and got the menu screen up. I have tried all the options and each one comes up with this message "Windows root>\system 32\hal.dll " Please re-install a copy of the above file. As you can see by the smiley, where the hell do I find that. Thanks in advance for your help here. Cheers, Peter

Hi, Email spam mainly. My pop up blocker seems to do everything else ok, but my tiscali(used to be lineone) email address seems to catch all the dubious stuff that's flying around. It's an email address I've had for years and I would get rid of it, but I need it to send emails, as my outlook express will only recieve emails and not send them since I moved to Sky broadband. I can't even get onto the Sky email program even after ringing them umpteen times to sort out my password etc, so I've just given up on that. It's just so annoying that I can't reply by email off a website because it won't send it, I have to open up Tiscali and use that instead, when I've got rid of about 125 disgusting messages on a daily basis, which seem to have been opened by the program without me even doing anything other than delete them. Thanks, Peter p.s. I did purchase a program called spam butcher, it does work but a lot are still getting through. This program was for a year and will soon be finishing, hence the question.

Hi, In your opinion what is the best Spam filter (free one) that can be downloaded. Thanks, Peter
-
Hi Seth, That is much faster other than the initial home page starting up. Once the home page is up and running all the other sites such as Google etc., load much faster. It is always a problem with slow page turning with this computer if you know what I mean, but it is faster now. It never did have Norton installed, but it did have the trial run of McAfee for about three months when we first bought the laptop about 4 years ago. Its a Dell Inspiron 6000 and it's been very reliable untill this slow page turning thing happened etc. Thanks again Seth, do you think there is anything else we can do, Peter
-
Thanks Seth, Yes it does definately work a lot faster in safe mode. I used safe mode with networking as you advised but it wont connect to internet. All the icons are there on what is now a black screen with safe mode worded in each corner. Awaiting your instruction Seth. Thanks, Peter
