I have recently got an acer netbook running windows 7. After using it yesterday it took ages to shut down and the screen said "confguring widows, do not turn off power. This took 5 mins to shut down & I was panicing I'd broken it. What was it doing & is it ok?

I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I have Microsoft office Power Point viewer on my pc but, when I get a file asking me to choose a programme to open it it does not appear in the list to choose from. Please can you tell me how to put this right. Thank you

I removed a program from my laptop using control panel add/remove sotware but now when i turn on i get a error message saying part of the removed programe can't be found. What did i do wrong and how do i fix it?
