Hi Starbuck, Just ran Malwarebytes again this morning, no problems shown with GOOBZO. I think that removing the two folders in the Firefox settings did the trick. Difficult to find though as files were 'hidden' in Documents and settings-application data- Mozilla-profiles folder. All seems to be sorted now. I will have a look though at the certificates and their origin, just in case there is something there as well. J (Rainy day here in Wales)

Hi Starbuck, Can't seem to send a reply to private message as requested. No permission given to use this service. Thanks for the kind offer, I think I will leave well alone as everything works well at the moment. Regards John

Hi Starbuck, Thanks for your help. I've just removed Firefox and installed a new edition. Have checked Malwarebytes and GOOBZO has not appeared again so far. I will have a look for 'Search Module Plus' as advised. Can't think of anything new that has been added as I'm in the process of 'slimming down' and removing unused software. I was a member of FPCH for several years and tried to log on with same details but did no pass the first hurdle. Not into text or games or audio! Regards jOHN

Hi All, Just been removing GOOBZO junk from Firefox folder as GOOBZO was returning every other day! While I had to look at everything I had a peep at 'CERTIFICATES'. Ye Gods what a mixture of names and origins. One was even Turkish. Do I just live with this assortment that have accumulated over the years or can some be deleted. Can the list be printed out to help with removal? Thanks John

Hi All, Eventually got this problem sorted! I changed the SATA ACHI mode in the BIOS to compatability enabled. This did the trick and I was able to load XP PRO via the CD drive. Then I had to look for a shed load of drivers, another story there! All sorted and thread closed. Thanks for your help. John

XP Pro, won't load. Hi Ken, I tried the XP Pro disc on another desktop computer. The sequence starts correctly, Windows 'Splash screen' what do you want to do... I clicked on XP Professional then got the screen where you add the codes. Then the loading went as I expected. I then halted the operation, before I messed up everything! Have I done the original partition and formatting correctly. Do I need a boot sector as a seperate partition? Can do the whole thing again, no problems. I did find out that on the 'Free' edition of Easus partition programme, the format option is not valid. I set it to format a 380Gb HDD and it was finished in seconds! This should have taken about hald an hour. The small print does eliminate a lot of the options! I then formatted the partition the normal way via the properties dialogue. Regards John

Hi All, Laptop here is a Leonovo, L512. 4GB RAM, HDD,380Gb. Did have XP Pro installed. The laptop had been owned by an ex-IBM Geek and was given to me to 'sort out'. I could not access the password so copied the files I wanted with a HDD Caddy. I then created a new partition on the HDD and formatted it NTFS. I also set the partition as active. I purchased a copy of XP Pro and tried to load the programme. The normal 'Splash screen' did not come up and I was not asked for the codes as I would have expected. The laptop just loaded the CD and when it came to starting windows, the blue screen message was there is a problem with the HDD. Possibly corrupt or a virus present. I checked everything and tried again. Same message. I formatted another smaller HDD, 80Gb and had the same results. I've tried setting the boot sequence to CD ROM and HDD, but no difference, just this warning screen when Windows is loaded. Any ideas anyone? John

Hi All, Dell Dimension 4700, XP Home, SP3, 2GBRAM, Video Radeon HD5450 2GB Recently reinstalled XP on new HDD. Got around to the speakers last night and found no sound even from headphones jack. Device manager shows problem with Multimedia Audio Controller. Tried to download new drivers but none can be found. This is an on-board sound chip that seems to have been missed when the drivers were handed out! I still have access to the old HDD in a HDD Caddy. Can I copy a file from the old Windows system to the new HDD. If this is possible what am I looking for? I've identified the files with drivers but not sure what's wanted. Any help would be appreciated. Regards J

Problem Solved, access to files now possible. Hi All, Tried several applications for file recovery. The slave drive was not being recognised. Back to partitions and EaseUS partition master, free download! I deleted all the partitions on the HDD. I had wrongly created one for a new boot sector. I then checked to see if I could recover any partitions and to my surprise, two of the original partitions appeared for recovery, boot and one other. One was FAT32 the other larger one was NTFS. I recovered the larger partition and the missing folders appeared like magic! Copied over a few missing files and folders. All is well and no further problems. Thanks for your help and suggestions, its been a good exercise! Don't mess things up before you have access to a HDD caddy! Regards J

Hi Nev, HDD housing arrived, not too bad seeing it was only a tenner. Complete with its own power supply as well and in a smart alloy case. Bad news is nothing at all on the drive, and asking to format before use. Must have done something wrong when I was trying to access the data. Looks like its been totally wiped and ready for formatting. When I remove the HDD jumper it shows two drives, E: and F: Both ready for formatting. Sad tale of woe! Thanks for your interest. Regards J

Hi Nev, The man with the HDD caddy didn't turn up, so I've ordered a simple one from Amazon. I don't think I have much to recover but it will still be an interesting exercise to have a look. I do have Photoshop CS2,CS4 and CS5 loaded on the drive and will have to sort out the licence transfers somehow. I presume Adobe have a system to cover knackered HDD's containing their very expensive software. No plans to re-use the drive, I'll just junk it. Regards J

Hi All, New HDD arrived from Amazon. WD Caviar Blue 500GB, about GB 55.00. Unplugged the old HDD and inserted the new. Reformat NTFS and inserted the XP set-up disc. Fantastic; Magic, no problems at all. I didn't even have to put in the Microsoft codes. Up and running, just a lot of applications and updates to install. Can't see why I was so concerned! Regards J
