Can't connect to internet/network problems
Bowler posted a topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi GuysI have been given a Samsung RV510 Notebook for christmas and I am having a lot of trouble connecting to the internet.I already have an Elonex desktop running Windows XP and have bought a Belkin N wireless router. The desktop has recognised the router which is fully fuctional. The problem I have is that the laptop will not connect to the router. It is loaded with Windows 7 and I believe that the two networks have to be the same. I have tried to change them but have failed miserably.I have followed the instruction to the letter on both the router and the laptop, but still I can't get the internet connection. It keeps saying that the network is not recognised.I don't know what else I can tell you. I am not very pc literate, so please answer this in "noddy" language which I can understand. Thanks for your anticipated help -
Thanks for your advice. I will try another browser, but first I will try what Randyl has advised. I went into Superantispyware and the hompage protection was not ticked. I have now ticked it and will run it for a while like that. If it still reverts back to msn then I will give Nev and Mag476 advise a go. Thanks one and all.
-
Hi Nev. Yes it is internet explorer that I have. I have Superantispyware Spyware Blaster Malwarebytes and Eset The firewall is window Firewall It still happens no matter what I put as my homepage. I have done scans with all of the above and nothing comes up.
-
Hi, I wonder if anyone can explain to me why the homepage on my pc (using windows xp) keeps changing. I want to keep www.Yahoo.co.uk as my homepage, but it keeps reverting back to MSN.Com I have gone to internet options, changed the homepage, press apply/go and it changes for about two weeks. On the Yahoo homepage is says, "make Yahoo your homepage". I do this but still it reverts back. Am I doing something wrong.

Hi Guys, I had help from pcplodder and everything is working ok now, so thanks for your assistance.
-
hi guys, i have managed to do as asked but according the update device i have the best system and it says that the device is working ok
-
Nev, I apologise for not coming back to you last year. That was because I had to take the pc and have it wiped clean and have windows reinstalled. My apologies once again.
-
Hi Jelly Bean, I have done as instructed, but in the hardware tab I do not have Sound, video and game controllers, so cannot expand.
-
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System. Click the Hardware tab. Expand Sound, video, and game controllers. Double-click the sound card, and then click the Driver tab. Click Update Driver. Follow the Hardware Update Wizard to update the sound card driver.
-
Hi, I have Windows XP and suddely have no sound. I have tried the audio troubleshooter, but it didn't halp. I have also checked that the mute on the desktop is not on. I have limited knowledge of pcs so please don't be too technical. I have a desktop Elonex Thanks
-
Hi guys, I have an Elonex pc running XP. I seem to have lost all sound. I have checked the volume control and have done scans, but have come up with nothing. I have also done a system restore but to no avail. Can any one tell me how to get my sound back. Thanks
-
Thanks Starbuck, I do seem to have a lot of trouble with this pc. Unfortunately there are two other people who use it that are not really as pc literate as me and they tend to go into sites they shouldn't even though I've told then how to be safe. The pc seems to be ok now, but before I posted here, it would not boot up, I could not get into safe mode, all I had was a blue desktop with no icons and I couldn't get the classic view in the control panel. I got some help from pc plodder to get it up and running and he suggested that I send the Hijacklthis log because he thought it looked suspicious. Thanks to him and yourself I am now up and running again (untill the next time!!!) Thanks once again much appreciated.
-
Hi Guys, Could someone please have a look at my hijackthis log. I have recently had a few problems with the start up which have now been sorted out. The pc is working ok at the moment. If there is anything that shouldn't be there I would appreciate your letting me know Thanks.
