Hello, newbie requesting help please! :) I have a built pc running Windows XP 2002 with service pack 2. AVG Free edition anti virus and windows defender. Windows Update problem after having new RAM installed. Computer started acting weird and eventually ran CHKDSK and deleted most things windows saying there were hundreds of xp security errors! Couldn't open anything on windows and had no internet explorer, no task bar or start menu. Tried rebooting but nothing worked. Didn't know what else to do so I inserted the xp installation disc and ran it, installed everything again (didn't reformat disc or anything). Seemed fine until I went to the windows update site afterwards and it said it needed 89 security updates (mostly) tried to install them but it says cannot install. Looked up error codes we found and it said that they couldn't be installed as the updates were older than the service pack we had installed(??!!) Tried deleting the updates that appear in Windows folder but they just download right back in again. Please help, no idea what else to do!! :confused:

Hi there, I'm moomincat and am interested in getting into IT so thought this would be a good way to learn something, plus figuring out (hopefully) what is wrong with my dad's PC!! I think it is possessed :confused: I know all the basics and I will post replies if I think I can help someone, I just hope someone will do the same for me! :D All the best Moo x
