Netbook to TV lead problem
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I wonder if I would be better off with VGA to HDMI or VGA to Yellow, Red and White RCAs? -
Hi all, I've bought a lead to connect my netbook to my tv to use it as a monitor. It has the 15 pin VGA connector on one end and 3 RCA connectors on the other - Red, Green and Blue. I plugged it into the appropriate terminals on the tv but can't view whatevers on the netbook screen. I've tried changing display settings within the computer and tried various combinations with the RCAs. This is the lead I bought: [urlhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280634772964&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT][/url] Are these coloured ends for audio only? Do I need a yellow RCA for video? Many thanks, Jon-Paul.

Hi all. I've come across a new problem. I bought a new joystick for my dad (Logitech Freedom 2.4 Wireless) for his flight simulator games. It installed fine and works really well with Combat Flight Sim 1 in XP, but not in Vista. It installed and calibrated fine on both OS. Downloaded latest gaming software from Logitech site, but still can't get it to work with CFS. I've gone through the Logitech Profiler settings. Any ideas folks? Many thanks, Jon-Paul.

Canon MP510 Error code 6000
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I've rang canon and they say error code 6000 is a "fatal error" and means the printer is mullered. They suggest disconnecting the printer from the mains for 20 mins to clear the internal memory. Will try this and update as to how it goes. If it doesn't work then I guess a new printer is in order. -
Hi, I've got the above printer and model. It's started flashing it's lights and says paper is jammed. I've looked inside, took the back plate out to check and can't see any paper stuck. Tried switching it off and on again. Still the same. Uninstalled it and reinstalled and still the same error code comes up. I've tried Canons website but can't find any info on error code 6000 The site won't let me download a user manual either. Any help is much appreciated. Many thanks, Jon-Paul.

Setting up automatic email in FF/xp
Jonny5isalive posted a topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi all, been a while since I've been on, good to be back. When on a website, I often want to contact the company by email, when I click on the email link it opens MS Outlook Express, which is no good to me. How do I set things up to go to my Yahoo email account automatically. It's fine if I have to sign in to Yahoo afterwards, just a pain in the bot having to copy, sign in to email account, then paste all the time. Many thanks, Jon-Paul. -
Hi all, I'm just wondering how to send and receive faxes from my computer? I've checked out Efax but would rather just pay for the ones I send or receive rather than a monthly charge as I'm only going to be sending them very infrequently. I've gone through the steps in Windows Fax Console but it looks like I have to use a fax modem. Is this the old dial-up modem? I'm currently using a usb BT voyager modem as have found it more reliable than my router. It has usb socket and phone line socket and that's it. PC has phone input. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, JP Clarey.

Processor and RAM upgrade query
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi all, the advice and info is much appreciated. I apologise for the delay in getting back to you all on this matter. I'm know more about software than hardware unfortunately. I'm not sure if my Pentium 4 is a 478 or 775 socket to be honest. At the time of upgrading the CPU I guess I must've been lucky when I thought I'd upgrade to a faster P4. I simply looked on Ebay for a faster one than I already had and got a shop to fit it. In terms of Motherboard and Chipset specs, the only info I know is posted above. The PC was supplied through the Littlewoods catalogue years ago and carries RAMCOM branding, (does this help anyone?) Internals are the original VIA Motherboard and P4 1.8. I've simply upgraded hardware from time to time and it continues to work well, most of the time. How can I determine which socket type my cpu is? Please get back to me if you need more info, serial numbers etc. Many thanks in advance, Jon-Paul Clarey. -
Hi all, it's good to be back! Happy new year to all. Hope someone can help. I have the following currently installed: VIA Technologies P4M266A (2 slots) Motherboard, Pentium 4 2.8Ghz cpu, (not sure if it's HT or not) 1.25Gb RAM I'm waiting for another 1 Gig RAM stick to go with the one I've already installed. I've run the Crucial memory scan and it says I can only install 2 sticks of 1Gig memory on my VIA motherboard and this is the maximum. I'd like more but if that's all I can put in then that's all I can put it. Is there any way of fooling the pc into using more memory per slot? The Crucial scanner picks up the correct cpu type and running speed but doesn't suggest any brands/models to upgrade the cpu. Is there a scanner that can determine which socket type my pentium 4 is and what I can upgrade to? Does anyone know an easy way within windows of doing this? I'm aware you can overclock the cpu and I'm pretty sure the decent heatsink and fan can cope with that, but does it make the OS unstable? Many thanks, Jon-Paul Clarey.

Hi Jelly Bean, thanks for your reply. I've tried clearing old the drivers etc. It took about 30 mins so there must've been quite a bit of junk in there. Still no joy though I'm afraid. I still get the same message coming up. I clicked on your link and started afresh, extracted all the files and ran the SETUP file, but I still get the error messages? Could this be a glitch in the software on in my pc? Please feel free to add ideas/thoughts, it's much appreciated. Thanks, Jon-Paul.

Hi, I hope someone can help. I'm trying to install a Voyager 105 USB broadband modem. I've used one before with no problems but have come across another one that I can't install. It's getting power to it via the USB lead and all seems well. I have existing drivers for it but as soon as I run the setup of them it comes up with an error message: "Error loading newdev.dll" followed by another message: "Administrator privileges are required to install, uninstall, or configure the DSL software" I'm set up as an administrator in User Settings already. What can I do now to get up and running? Can anyone help as how to get rid of these messages or override the settings?

How do I open ports?
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I've disabled Windows Firewall and the icon is still red in uTorrent. I did read a part in the help section of uTorrent that showed a program or port number etc that could be added to Exceptions in Windows Firewall. I tried to find this info again but I can't locate it. -
How do I open ports?
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Tootech, thanks for your reply. I'm using a new router supplied by Talk Talk. It's a Huawei SMART AX variant, but I'm not sure which exact version. I've had a bit of trouble with slow speeds/closed ports in uTorrent and Live Messenger since I rigged it up. My old usb modem, a BT Voyager didn't have any problems at all. Windows firewall is enabled but I can't find the info I need in uTorrent help to add programs or open ports when in the exceptions section of Windows Firewall help. Oh yeah, I tried the website you suggested, found my router, then they wanted cash from me for the privilege. It states it's free, lol. Guess not then. -
Hi all, hope someone can help. I haven't been on here for ages, feels good to be back! I have a problem with downloads and uploads at the minute. I can't sign into Windows messenger. It goes through the connection troubleshooting checks but stops at the "Key Ports" section. When using uTorrent the icon at the bottom is either red or amber and says I need to open more ports. I'm trying to upload a couple of music tracks I've created for people to listen to, so all is legal. How do I get round this? Any help is much appreciated. Many thanks, Jon-Paul.

Which Ram is compatible?
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, thanks for your help, things are clearer now. Much appreciated, Jon-Paul. -
Hi, I hope you can help. I've currently got 1.2Gb Ram and wish to upgrade to as much Ram as possible for my PC. I'm running XP. I only have 2 Ram slots and was wondering if there are 2Gb sticks available? This would give me 4Gb, which is more than enough for me. The Pc is fairly fast as it is at the moment but I would like to upgrade. The 1Gb stick I have has DDR400 on it but no speed info, and the 256Mb stick has PC2100 on it. Can I just buy another DDR400 1Gb stick to make 2Gb etc? I'm not sure if I can buy 2x 2Gb sticks for my pc which would work well. Many thanks for your help, J.P.

Can't find Sound card or Drivers for it
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, it's a hand built one as far as I know. I've found what I needed after all that! After quite a bit of looking about on the VIA website (it's not the easiest to navigate) there's a few combined Audio codec packs to download. My sound card driver apparently comes under a Vinyl Audio combined codec thingie. We got there in the end! Sound is now playing nice and loud again! You learn something new everyday. Thanks for all your help guys, really is appreciated. -
Can't find Sound card or Drivers for it
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I have an original configuration sheet. It says: System Manufacturer: VIA Technologies Product: P4M266-8235 Motherboard: Product: P4M266-8235 Audio: VT8233 AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller I've looked online for a Driver for the sound card but have had no joy as yet. I've tried the VIA website but couldn't find anything with this code on either. -
Can't find Sound card or Drivers for it
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Thanks Tootech. Ths is what Device Manager shows beeceebee: The PCI sound/modem card is listed there but I'm not sure what the on-board audio comes under. Theres Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers and Media Control Devices. -
Can't find Sound card or Drivers for it
Jonny5isalive replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
To Plastic Nev: Been trying them speakers in the correct socket on the card. No joy. Tried them with my hi-fi via the h/phone socket and they work fine. Volume Control won't let me access it because it says no active Mixer Devices are available. To Beeceebee: I HAVE been using the onboard sound previously (VIA AC '97) and this appears in Device Manager as Multimedia Audio Controller with a yellow symbol and exclamation mark next to it. At the minute, I was intending to concentrate on the PCI card instead of the on-board audio as Windows actually FINDS the driver and installs it. I've run the Harware Update Wizard for the VIA 97 several times without it finding a driver, even when it searches Windows Update. I've even ticked the box to 'Install from a list or specific location>Don't search, I will choose a driver to install' In the Harware Type list I chose Sound, Video and Game Controllers. A list of 4 manufacturers comes up, with 3 of them being game ports and VIA Technologies being the Audio. I chose the VIA option - (VIA AC'97 Audio Controller WDM) and that's where I get the below warning: I've tried going ahead with installing it and it appears in Sounds and Audio devices as the Default Device, but I still get no sound, even when adjusting things in Volume Control. I apologise if you guys are getting frustrated or impatient with me or if I'm not explaining things too well, but you'll know a lot more than I do about these things.
